Client Information: 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division of HIV Prevention (DHP) focus on high impact prevention of HIV—by preventing new HIV infections, improving health outcomes for persons with HIV, and reducing HIV related disparities and health inequities.   

DHP develops and maintains a variety of data and information systems to support its mission, including systems to collect, transmit, store, and analyze data for HIV/AIDS surveillance, epidemiology, and program monitoring and evaluation. We are looking for IT and public health partners including statisticians, researchers, behavioral scientists, computer scientists, public health advisors/analysts, budget analysts, and other program staff. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Analyze public health data to support the development and evaluation of IT systems for HIV/AIDS prevention and control.  
  • Collaborate with IT and public health teams to ensure that IT solutions meet the epidemiological needs of public health programs.  
  • Assist in the design and implementation of surveillance systems, data collection tools, and reporting mechanisms.  
  • Provide analytical support for public health decision-making by generating reports, visualizations, and presentations that communicate complex data in an understandable format.  
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings to gather requirements and provide insights on public health implications of IT projects. 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in public health analysis, epidemiology, or a closely related field.  
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing large health datasets and using statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, SPSS).  
  • Experience in writing and presenting analytical reports and publications. 

Preferred: 

  • Experience working with HIV/AIDS data or related infectious diseases.  
  • Previous experience in federal or state public health agencies.  
  • Familiarity with CDC's public health policies and procedures. 
  • Certified in Public Health (CPH).  
  • Professional certification in health data analysis or epidemiology (e.g., Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA)).
