Client Information: 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division of HIV Prevention (DHP) focus on high impact prevention of HIV—by preventing new HIV infections, improving health outcomes for persons with HIV, and reducing HIV related disparities and health inequities.   

DHP develops and maintains a variety of data and information systems to support its mission, including systems to collect, transmit, store, and analyze data for HIV/AIDS surveillance, epidemiology, and program monitoring and evaluation. We are looking for IT and public health partners including statisticians, researchers, behavioral scientists, computer scientists, public health advisors/analysts, budget analysts, and other program staff. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement testing protocols to ensure that all digital content and software applications meet Section 508 compliance standards for accessibility. 
  • Conduct manual and automated tests to identify potential accessibility issues within web applications, software, and other digital media. 
  • Collaborate with web developers, designers, and content creators to provide feedback and guidance on how to resolve accessibility issues. 
  • Document test results, prepare detailed reports on findings, and monitor the progress of issue resolution. 
  • Stay updated on new technologies and changes in accessibility legislation to ensure ongoing compliance and best practices. 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in quality assurance testing with a specific focus on accessibility testing. 
  • Proficient in using accessibility testing tools such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, Axe, and WAVE. 
  • Strong understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and how they apply to software and web development. 
  • ​​​​​​​Experience in documenting defects and working through the resolution process. 

Preferred: 

  • Prior experience working with health-related or government IT systems. 
  • Experience in training or educating teams on accessibility practices and requirements. 
  • Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) by the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP). 
  • ​​​​​​​Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) certification is highly desirable.
