Client Information: 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division of HIV Prevention (DHP) focus on high impact prevention of HIV—by preventing new HIV infections, improving health outcomes for persons with HIV, and reducing HIV related disparities and health inequities.   

DHP develops and maintains a variety of data and information systems to support its mission, including systems to collect, transmit, store, and analyze data for HIV/AIDS surveillance, epidemiology, and program monitoring and evaluation. We are looking for IT and public health partners including statisticians, researchers, behavioral scientists, computer scientists, public health advisors/analysts, budget analysts, and other program staff. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as the third-level support in the IT operations team, handling advanced issues escalated by Tier I and Tier II support. 
  • Analyze and resolve complex system and network issues affecting the CDC’s DHAP IT systems. 
  • Monitor IT infrastructure to ensure system availability and reliability, performing system tuning and optimizations as required. 
  • Document troubleshooting steps and final resolutions for future reference and incorporation into the IT knowledge base. 
  • Collaborate with system administrators, network engineers, and software developers to streamline operations and enhance system performance. 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT operations, with a significant focus on problem resolution in a high-availability environment. 
  • Expertise in diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues involving multiple technology stacks. 
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure components such as servers, networking devices, operating systems, databases, and software applications. 
  • Experience with system monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds, Splunk) and automated management systems. 

Preferred: 

  • Experience working in government or healthcare IT environments, with familiarity with compliance and security requirements. 
  • Hands-on experience with cloud technologies and environments, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. 
  • ITIL Certification, particularly in Service Operation. 
  • ​​​​​​​Certifications related to network or system administration (e.g., Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)).
