Client Information: 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division of HIV Prevention (DHP) focus on high impact prevention of HIV—by preventing new HIV infections, improving health outcomes for persons with HIV, and reducing HIV related disparities and health inequities.   

DHP develops and maintains a variety of data and information systems to support its mission, including systems to collect, transmit, store, and analyze data for HIV/AIDS surveillance, epidemiology, and program monitoring and evaluation. We are looking for IT and public health partners including statisticians, researchers, behavioral scientists, computer scientists, public health advisors/analysts, budget analysts, and other program staff. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Supports the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of DHP IT/information/data applications and systems to ensure that DHP has the tools and methods needed to collect and manage HIV-related science and programmatic data.  
  • This support includes: Operational  and Software maintenance and upgrades such as refreshing outdated technology components; Performance tuning and optimization; Operations and Maintenance Planning such as maintaining system viability for infrastructure upgrades; Data quality management ; Data transformation; Prioritizing and correcting identified defects. 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field. 
  • Minimum  of 5years’ experience with Operations and Maintenance 
  • Common skills for personnel working on this project are as follows: 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and establish and maintain effective working relationships.  
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance 
  • Ability to work with development and security issues/resolutions  
  • Perform most work independently in a mid-level, non-managerial role, exercising much latitude over steps to carry out tasking, prioritize workload and make recommendations on overall strategies.  
  • Ability to successfully manage routine to moderately complex matters and provide assistance on broad agency efforts in the relevant subject matter area.  
  • Ability to participate as a member of a team or work independently, coordinate with others, and provide leadership on a diverse range of tasks.  
  • Standard documentation describing IT systems and detailed information flows.  
  • Training and end-user technical support for applications, systems, and technologies  
  • Use of sound judgment, innovative thinking, and ingenuity in interpreting the intent of applicable rules, laws, policies and regulations and guides and in developing applications to specific issues, to include arriving at effective solutions  
  • ​​​​​​​Capacity for self-study and the ability to research and evaluate to do research of applicable rules, laws and regulations as necessary
