Client Information: 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division of HIV Prevention (DHP) focus on high impact prevention of HIV—by preventing new HIV infections, improving health outcomes for persons with HIV, and reducing HIV related disparities and health inequities.   

DHP develops and maintains a variety of data and information systems to support its mission, including systems to collect, transmit, store, and analyze data for HIV/AIDS surveillance, epidemiology, and program monitoring and evaluation. We are looking for IT and public health partners including statisticians, researchers, behavioral scientists, computer scientists, public health advisors/analysts, budget analysts, and other program staff. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the design and architecture of robust, scalable IT systems for the CDC’s DHAP, ensuring alignment with public health goals and IT strategies. 
  • Evaluate and integrate new technologies, frameworks, and infrastructure solutions to enhance system functionality and performance. 
  • Develop architectural blueprints and detailed documentation for IT systems that include both hardware and software components. 
  • Work collaboratively with IT teams, including developers, network engineers, and cybersecurity experts, to ensure cohesive and secure system integration. 
  • Conduct system performance reviews and iterate on design enhancements to support evolving public health needs. 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in IT system architecture with a proven track record of designing complex systems in large organizations. 
  • Extensive knowledge of modern architecture patterns (e.g., microservices, event-driven), platforms (e.g., .NET, Java EE), and cloud architectures (AWS, Azure). 
  • Experience in designing and implementing enterprise-scale data solutions, including relational and NoSQL databases. 

Preferred: 

  • Experience in healthcare or public health sector IT systems, particularly with familiarity in compliance and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH). 
  • Prior experience with systems that process and analyze large volumes of sensitive data. 
  • Certified Information Systems Architect (CISA) or similar. 
  • Relevant cloud architecture certifications, such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
