Summary:
GSE Solutions leverages five decades of proven industry experience. GSE DP Engineering is searching for an experienced Manager of Engineering who will provide overall direction to our engineering organization. The Manager of Engineering will assess our engineering organization’s staffing and capabilities and ensure our organization is poised to support current and future client needs.
Essential Functions:
 
  • Directly oversees professional development of Supervisors of all disciplines and indirectly (working through Supervisors) oversees professional development of the technical staff.
  • Assists with Sales function by making client visits in support of projects and in support of Business Development, Sales and Marketing.
  • Acts as technical resource and mentor for subordinate Supervisors. Assures Supervisors understand and are trained in their duties and responsibilities.
  • Consistently works with Supervisors to update the technical capabilities of all disciplines to provide greater capabilities to the clients.
  • Works with Supervisors as arbiter of engineering staff for assignment to projects. Assigns priority and resolves conflicts in assignment of personnel to meet client needs and schedules. Communicates decisions on priority to Client Services Managers (CSMs) and Project Managers (PMs).
  • Ensures periodic assessments of the Engineering organization, products, procedures, etc. to identify areas for improvement, best practices, and overall product quality. Takes immediate action to assure minimal rework of engineering products.
  • Works with Supervisors to assure overall billability of the Engineering organization supports company goals. 
  • Takes immediate action to correct Condition Reports and address causes and actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Understands project pricing and budget structure. Provides input to/ approval of proposals and project estimates.

  • . Working with Supervisors, ensures appropriate staffing mix throughout the engineering organization. Participates in interviews and hiring decisions.
  • Stays abreast of industry trends, issues, regulations, etc. and works with Supervisors and Business Development to identify growth opportunities.
  • Maintains excellent relationships with Client peers.
  • Works with Supervisors to identify candidates for the role of Project Engineer.
  • Performs engineering work in support of company projects or consulting engagements when necessary.
  • May be required to take temporary assignments at customer locations to support business needs and requirements.

  • Must be a dynamic individual with the ability and skills to mold and motivate subordinate assigned personnel and staff to achieve both DPE and project goals as established.
  • Must have recognized knowledge of nuclear power plant design.
  • Communication Skills – Must have the ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing in English.
  • Multi-tasking abilities - Must have the ability to interface with different discipline Supervisors.
  • Must have the ability to perform, advise and perform oversight of projects.
  • Must have the ability to assess and update technical capabilities of the Engineering organization.
  • Must have ability to travel to client job sites, client office locations or other project related areas.
  • Computers & Software – Extensive knowledge and ability using Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Must be able to perform and comprehend business calculations, spatial comprehension, understand and interpret reports from various departments.
  • Must be able to command respect from subordinates, vendors, and clients.
  • Must abide by Employee Handbook and all DPE Policies and Procedures.

Education & Experience
 
  • Required: 7-15 years experience as Engineering Department Supervisor of an equivalent Engineering Firm Alternatively, experience as a supervisor at a nuclear utility.
  • PE License preferred

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

Working Conditions:
 
  • The working environment is generally favorable.
  • Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
  • Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available
  • Ability to obtain unescorted access
  •  This position will be working primarily indoors in a smoke free environment and industrial facilities including nuclear power facilities, but also requires the employee to be in the outdoors on a regular basis. From this movement, the employee will encounter varying weather conditions and temperatures. The normal auto and air travel hazards will apply. Travel will be in all types of weather including heavy rain, snow and wind.
  •  Domestic and international travel as required. Additional travel, up to and including temporary assignments at clients’ facilities may be required in order to provide consulting services to the company’s clients.
