Summary of Role

The Network Administrator is accountable for driving results in a fast-paced environment by ensuring the stable operation of the in-house computer network. This includes installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links. The ideal candidate will also assist helpdesk personnel to analyze and resolve end user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required. The position requires leadership behaviors of Sterling's core competencies and non-negotiables, as well as expertise in functional competencies included in this position profile.

Essential Functions

  • Performs network maintenance and configuration.
  • Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Conducts research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
  • Ensures that LAN/WAN configurations are compatible and consistent with the global standards of the company.
  • Assists with install, configuration, and management of all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, wireless, hubs, and UPSs.
  • Assists with management of security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Investigates and troubleshoots network problems and perform LAN/WAN communication repair during and after hours.
  • Monitors and tests network performance.
  • Assists with network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Provides server/systems support when appropriate in addition to providing helpdesk and network/desktop support.
  • Assists other IT staff in implementing and designing network and system solutions.
  • Assists with systems backup/restore/and offsite media storage and retention activities.
  • Assists with endpoint security.
  • Helps establish and maintain network and server documentation, SOPS, and procedures.
  • Works with Sr. Network staff to develop local and remote network policies, assist with monitoring, updating, and configuration of network.
  • Ensures timely completion and compliance with cGMP and all other relevant company training requirements.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 2+ years of experience in network administration.
  • CCNA minimum certification. 
  • Experience required in the following areas: 
    • Configuring and maintaining Layer2/3 Switches and Routers.
    • Layer 1 build outs and working with contractors for installation.
    • Configuring and maintaining firewalls.
    • Routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP, RIP, OSPF).
    • IP Address management.
    • Network Security.
    • Troubleshooting tools (tcpdump, wireshark, etc.).
    • Working with Third Party Vendors such as ISP’s.
    • Change Management Processes.
    • Hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implementing file backups, and configuring systems and applications.
