Summary of Role

The Maintenance Technician is accountable for driving results in a fast-paced environment by preserving the condition and functionality of all facility and manufacturing equipment with a high degree of safety and quality.  The position will be responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and preventative maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the business goals.  The position requires superior leadership behaviors of the Sterling core competencies and non-negotiables, as well as expertise in functional competencies included in this position profile.

Essential Functions

  • Create and follow maintenance standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Troubleshoot machinery and diagnose the root cause of malfunctions using diagnostic tools and problem-solving abilities.
  • Perform mechanical repairs using hand and power tools.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance technicians to solve complex mechanical issues.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment
  • Follows all internal safety practices and OSHA regulations.
  • Provides excellent customer service to internal client groups.
  • Ensures timely completion and compliance with cGMP and all other relevant company training requirements.

Key Competencies

  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems and chemical process systems.
  • Working knowledge of motors, pumps, seals, as well as valves, reactors, tanks, and control systems.
  • Ability to perform complex math functions, compute ratios, rates, and percentages.
  • Ability to draw and interpret graphs and charts.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
  • Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • No direct reports, but accountable for leading and influencing others.
  • Participates in the hiring process of other employees.
  • Schedules and/or reviews the work of other employees.
  • Coaches, mentors and develops other employees.
  • Candidates need to be competent with IT systems, and Microsoft Office including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED with 5-8 years relevant work experience in Pharmaceutical or Manufacturing industry preferred.
  • Experience working in a chemical or industrial environment preferred.
  • Industrial Maintenance Technician Certificate preferred.
