Howard University Hospital  |  Washington, DC

    Role Summary

As a CT Technologist at Howard University Hospital, you will perform high-quality computed tomography procedures for patients across the full age spectrum — neonatal through geriatric — as part of a Radiology team committed to diagnostic excellence and patient-centered care. Working alongside radiologists, radiology residents, radiologic technologists, and nurses, you will apply established CT protocols with the independent technical judgment needed to produce optimal imaging while keeping patient safety and comfort at the forefront of everything you do.

    What You’ll Do

    • Perform computed tomography procedures utilizing established scan protocols, including contrast administration, without requiring constant supervision
    • Apply independent technical judgment to adjust protocols and administer ionizing radiation appropriately for diagnostic CT purposes; monitor patient condition before and after scanning to ensure safety and comfort
    • Operate complex imaging equipment for the acquisition, analysis, reconstruction, and documentation of image data; complete all procedures according to established protocol
    • Perform venipuncture and operate power injectors per department and manufacturer protocols; determine appropriate contrast agent type and volume based on patient age, weight, and requested procedure
    • Administer contrast media per physician orders and department policy; assess patients for contraindications and potential risk factors prior to contrast administration
    • Identify all patients using two patient identifiers and universal protocol prior to initiating any procedure; review patient history and physician orders, applying departmental protocols for optimal image acquisition; document patient history in the electronic health record as required
    • Ensure all exams are properly coded and tracked through the RIS system, networked to archiving and interpretation, and charged accurately for exams performed
    • Communicate procedure instructions clearly and compassionately to patients; explain the process to alleviate anxiety, elicit cooperation, and ensure patient safety throughout the encounter
    • Interact with patients and interdisciplinary colleagues with caring, dignity, and respect; function as an effective team member within the department and across the organization to expedite patient care
    • Troubleshoot equipment issues proactively to minimize downtime and maintain imaging quality; apply ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles at all times
    • Promote adherence to the Health Sciences Compliance Program, Howard University Code of Ethics, Health Sciences Standards of Conduct, and HIPAA; attend all mandatory compliance training
    • Maintain strict confidentiality of patients, families, and staff
    • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the scope and classification of this role

    Required Qualifications

    • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification as a Radiologic Technologist required
    • ARRT CT registry certification (ARRT(CT)) required
    • Current licensure as a Radiologic Technologist in the District of Columbia (or eligibility)
    • Minimum two (2) years of experience as a CT Technologist
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
    • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy of the head, thorax, and abdomen; familiarity with CT terminology, scan protocols, and ALARA principles
    • Ability to lift moderate loads, stand for extended periods, and meet the physical demands of this role as outlined in the position description

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with advanced CT applications including CT angiography, cardiac CT, and CT-guided procedures
    • Experience working in a high-volume academic medical center or Level I Trauma Center setting
    • Familiarity with PACS, RIS, and electronic health record systems
