Job Description Summary:
The job responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-P) will be to serve in a dual capacity. The EMT-P shall be dually trained in regards to job functions within the Business Office department as they apply to patient registration and front desk operations. Likewise, the EMT-P shall be trained to perform duties in the clinical department and shall assist clinical staff as needed, scheduled or as assigned. The Administrator and Nurse Director shall work in cooperation to assign primary duties and responsibilities for any given scheduled shift. Primary assignment shall mean that the employee shall be primarily responsible and obligated for the work capacity for which he or she is asked to fulfill during the shift. This does not mean that the employee will not be requested, during the course of this shift, to fulfill some requirements in any additional capacity.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists clinical staff in the evaluation, treatment and care of patients. If qualified and trained, may assist in performing tasks such as obtaining preliminary information from the patient, obtaining baseline or initial vital signs, blood draws, medication administration, diagnostic laboratory testing, splinting and other basic functions; establishes peripheral IV access, and performs phlebotomy, point-of-care testing and lab specimen collection procedures, medication administration. Transports patients using wheelchair, stretcher or wagon within hospital and to and from vehicles. Clean and disinfect patient rooms and other areas as required by the supervisor. Fulfills and completes all assigned tasks promptly and efficiently. Properly disposes of and handles as applicable, sharps, soiled materials, and linens and disinfects area in accordance with policy and policy as applicable. Properly uses PPE when in contact with patients, soiled utility, hazardous materials in accordance with policy. Is familiar with, abides by and adheres to all safety, environment of care, and infection control policies. Prepares soiled instruments for sterilization. May assist or perform light maintenance duties as required by the EOC or Safety Officer. Utilizes safe work practices when performing any type of labor.
Experience in a free standing ED or in hospital ED a plus.
