The Publishing Design Specialist is responsible for handling the design, file creation, vendor communication, document transfers, quality assurance, and archiving of reprint and new materials. This role reports to the Sr. Manager of Production, and works in collaboration with the Production and Editorial teams.
Key Duties
●      Make design edits to reprint files according to specific requests and/or standards
●      Create new designs and products following company standards
●      Check file construction and assets for resolution, color standards, and accuracy
●      Review and approve prepress files, printer proofs, and final products
●      Quality-check hard copy deliverables
●      Keep track of due dates for printer file uploads and approvals
●      Archive files, following company archiving requirements
●      Record job notes (Readme files) to document edits and printing specifics
●      Maintain various databases and update the in-house Production print library
●      Inform appropriate departments, such as Editorial and Warehouse, about product edits
●      Create digital files according to specs for online publishing
Our ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:
●      Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
●       3–5 years of related work experience
●      Required skills: Expertise in Adobe InDesign with a strong knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Google docs/sheets and Microsoft programs
●      Experience with the following: book publishing, editing, project management, and printing processes, such as prepress, proofing, paper specs, and treatments; digital asset creation and management; typography, formatting, and other design skills
●     Must be detail-oriented with visual acuity
●     Exceptional organizational skills, with attention to detail to ensure a high degree of accuracy
●     Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines
●      Works well within both a team environment and independently

Experience with any of the following will be considered an additional asset: elementary or literacy education, educational publishing in grades K–12, or educational technology.
Currently, this position is mostly remote, with in-person visits to the office or warehouse every 1-2 weeks. This role may continue as remote or remote/in-person hybrid, depending on ability to effectively work remotely.
