  • Provides technical engineering leadership for a discipline and makes technical decisions and recommendations. Assists with the planning and scheduling of engineering tasks within a specific discipline and across disciplines.
  • Initiates and maintains relationships with engineers and with key engineering officials from external partners incorporating persuasion and negotiation skills for critical issues. Acts as the technical point of contact for project managers.
  • Retains an advanced level of knowledge of the discipline’s material costs, cost analysis, and forecasting.
  • Provides guidance to engineering staff and support various engineering teams.
  • Develop specifications for technical and construction projects and estimate costs for the purchase of material, equipment or systems within a specific discipline.
  • Participates in the development of proposals, including scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Acts as lead Engineer in charge of maintaining and approving engineering deliverables.
  • Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
  • Prepares designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, reports, plans, specifications, and estimates for applicable projects.
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary review and approval of (including stamp and signature) project engineering deliverables.
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and designs for the specific area(s) of expertise.
  • Collaborates with project team (including sub consultants) and notifies Project Manager of project challenges and solutions.
  • Keeps abreast of new industry developments, regulations, and technologies affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in programs and applications.
  • Conducts detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and prepares reports.
  • Provides input to the development of the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
  • Acts independently on technical matters pertaining to the field of work with minimal supervision.
  • Conducts quality control review of design calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and other technical documents.
  • Identifies discrepancies in results and proposes an approach to solve new problems encountered.
  • Participates in the development of technical solutions.
  • Uses computer software to design engineering projects, solve technical problems, organize data, and prepare technical documents.
  • Anticipates and proposes solutions to unanticipated problems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Civil Engineering or related field; 16+ years’ Civil Engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:
Read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Respond effectively to sensitive inquiries. Write speeches and articles using innovative techniques. Make persuasive presentations on complex topics to management, public groups and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Ability:
Apply advanced concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations. Apply operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, test reliability/validity, variance analysis, correlation technique, sampling theory and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability:
Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:
  • MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Edge, Project)
Certificates and Licenses:
California Professional Engineer
