A premier financial services firm located in New York City seeks an Assistant General Counsel to join its collaborative and team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in law firm and in-house settings as a bank regulatory attorney and will be expected to be knowledgeable in various bank regulatory areas. Compensation is $250K - $290K plus bonus and a competitive benefits package.  

Primary Duties:

  • Provide bank regulatory legal advice to business, control function leaders and other stakeholders.

  • Provide project leadership on bank regulatory and supervisory matters.

  • Provide legal advice related to AML/KYC/CIP/CDD, as well as OFAC and sanctions programs.

  • Work effectively and in partnership with legal and compliance colleagues, as well as colleagues throughout the firm.

  • Support and coordinate responses for regulatory and internal audits as applicable.

  • Monitor and communicate standards and best practices applicable to the firm’s business and regulatory posture.  

  • Provide legal advice and project guidance regarding new products and services, client platform development and other services involving regulatory issues.

  • Ensure that appropriate policies and procedures are up to date and accurate.


  • A minimum of 10 years of legal experience in law firm and corporate settings; experience at a U.S. bank regulatory agency a plus.

  • Juris Doctor (U.S.)  (Must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction.)​​​​​

  • Trust company/banking/wealth management regulatory experience.

  • Solid knowledge of existing and proposed U.S. banking/BHC regulations, statutes, agency rulings and policy.

  • Deep understanding of day-to-day bank/trust company business operations.

  • Self-starter and ability to manage/prioritize multiple responsibilities at once.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment and partner with colleagues in a creative, collaborative and productive manner.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to identify problems and take appropriate actions to resolve issues.

  • Ability to inspire trust and influence others.
