A premier financial services firm seeks an Assistant General Counsel to join its collaborative and team-oriented environment located in Washington, DC. This is a hybrid role, with three days in the office; two days remote.  The compensation is $210K - $300K with a competitive benefits package and is bonus eligible. 

Primary Duties:

The Assistant General Counsel will focus on providing bank regulatory guidance by analyzing laws and regulations applicable to bank holding companies and national banks, advising the company regarding the impact of proposed and new regulations, and working with internal business units within the company to provide legal support on various bank regulatory matters and risks. Additional duties include:

  • Provide bank regulatory legal advice to business, control function leaders and other stakeholders.​​​​​​

  • Monitor and communicate standards and best practices applicable to the company’s business and regulatory posture, including new regulatory developments and supervisory guidance on those areas that may impact the company and/or its clients.​​​​​​

  • Assist with initiatives on bank regulatory and supervisory matters whether, for example, for new products and services, client platform development and other services involving bank regulatory issues .

  • Work effectively and in partnership with legal and compliance colleagues, as well as colleagues throughout the company.

  • Partner with lines of business and corporate functions to identify legal and regulatory priorities, assess impact and opportunities, and develop company positions from a bank regulatory perspective.

  • Ensure that appropriate policies and procedures are up to date and accurate.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (U.S.)  (Must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction.)​​​​​

  • A minimum of five plus years of federal financial services legal counsel experience in-house, at a law firm and/or in corporate settings; experience at a U.S. bank regulatory agency a plus.

  • Experience with M&A.

  • Solid knowledge of existing and proposed U.S. banking/BHC regulations, statutes, agency rulings and policy.

  • Self-starter and ability to manage/prioritize multiple responsibilities.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment and partner with colleagues in a creative, collaborative and productive manner.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational and project management skills, excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • Ability to identify problems and take appropriate action to resolve issues.

  • Ability to be flexible and willing to cover new and novel legal and regulatory matters that arise and may impact the company.
