OVERVIEW OF POSITION: The Part-Time Retail & Customer Experience Associate reports directly to the Senior Manager of Retail Operations and Customer Engagement and is based at the Cherry Hill Experience Center. This position supports the daily operations of the Girl Scout Retail Shop by providing friendly, knowledgeable customer service and assisting with sales, order fulfillment, inventory management, administrative tasks, and general shop upkeep.

  The Retail & Customer Experience Associate helps maintain an organized, welcoming, and well-stocked retail environment while supporting efficient day-to-day shop operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys engaging with customers, is organized and dependable, and takes pride in creating a positive experience for Girl Scouts, families, volunteers, and staff.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Customer Service & Retail Operations:

  • Provide friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable service to Girl Scouts, families, volunteers, and staff.  
  • Assist customers with product questions, purchases, and general retail inquiries.  
  • Operate the point-of-sale system to accurately process cash, credit, and other forms of payment.  
  • Answer and respond to customer inquiries received by phone and email.  
  • Assist with processing orders received through various channels, including phone and email orders.  
  • Fulfill Buy Online, Pick Up In Store (BOPIS) orders accurately and efficiently.  
  • Prepare customer orders for pickup and ensure orders are complete and properly packaged.  
  • Maintain a welcoming, organized, and professional retail environment. 

 

Inventory & Merchandising:

  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate low-stock and out-of-stock items to the Retail Manager.  
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, labeling, and stocking merchandise.  
  • Help maintain accurate inventory records and report discrepancies or concerns to the manager.  
  • Assist with merchandising and maintaining organized, visually appealing displays.  
  • Help ensure products are properly priced and displayed.

 

Administrative & Cash Handling:

  • Complete daily retail reporting and other routine administrative tasks.  
  • Follow established procedures for cash handling, register reconciliation, and end-of-day responsibilities.  
  • Prepare and make bank deposits as assigned.  
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate any discrepancies or issues to the Retail Manager.  
  • Assist with other administrative tasks related to the daily operation of the retail shop. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting retail environment.  
  • Perform light custodial duties, including dusting shelves, wiping counters and registers, and maintaining general shop cleanliness.  
  • Assist with keeping storage and work areas organized. 

 

Girl Programming Support:

  • Occasionally assist the Retail Manager with Girl Scout programming and events.  
  • Provide basic event support, such as preparing or distributing supplies, helping with setup and cleanup, and serving as an additional adult presence during activities.  
  • This position is not responsible for independently developing or leading programming but may provide support as needed. 

 

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.  
  • Customer Service: Demonstrated ability to provide friendly, professional, and responsive customer service.  
  • Experience: Previous retail, customer service, cash handling, or administrative experience preferred.  
  • Knowledge of the Girl Scout movement is preferred but not required.  
  • Technology: Ability to learn and effectively use point-of-sale systems, email, and basic computer applications.  
  • Organization: Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate records.  
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Reliability: Dependable and punctual, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.  
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and move throughout the retail space for extended periods and occasionally lift and move boxes or merchandise up to 50lbs. 

Preferred Qualities 

  • Friendly, approachable, and comfortable interacting with people of all ages.  
  • Organized and detail oriented.  
  • Comfortable handling cash and completing routine administrative tasks.  
  • Able to take initiative and recognize what needs to be done without constant supervision. 
  • Flexible and willing to assist with a variety of retail and organizational needs.  
  • Comfortable working in a busy environment where priorities may change throughout the day.  
  • Supportive of the Girl Scout mission and committed to creating a positive experience for girls, families, volunteers, and staff. 

 

Schedule 

This is a part-time position averaging approximately 20 hours per week. Two employees will be hired for this role, with each employee assigned a consistent shift to ensure coverage throughout the retail shop’s operating hours. 

Shift 1: Primarily weekday mornings and early afternoons, with every other Saturday.  

Shift 2: Primarily weekday afternoons and evenings, with every other Saturday, alternating with Shift 1. 

The two employees will coordinate with the Retail Manager to establish consistent schedules and ensure appropriate coverage during all open retail hours. Reliability and consistent availability during the assigned shift are essential.
