Mass Insight is growing and looking to add a Senior Program Accountant to its Accounting & Finance team. Under the direct supervision of the Accounting & Finance Senior Manager, the Senior Program Accountant will be responsible for supporting the overall financial cycle of the Advance Placement (AP) STEM & English program, currently the Organization’s largest program. Mass Insight Education & Research is a Boston-based nonprofit serving schools and districts nationwide. Position Overview

The Senior Program Accountant will develop a broad perspective about the inner workings of Mi and will work with folks from across the Organization to contribute to timely, accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Program Accountant will provide timely, collaborative, service-oriented support to program staff on all financial matters relevant to AP STEM & English program. The work that our program staff is like that of a consulting or professional service firm, providing various kinds of support for over 80 high schools across the state. Some high schools pay for services at a fixed amount for the school year while others pay for services used, from an ala carte menu of service. Responsibilities of the Senior Program Accountant will include billing and collections, processing of payables, reconciling program revenue, and communicating with both internal and external program stakeholders. Other non-AP STEM & English program finance and accounting projects may be assigned.

Within 12 months in the role, a new Senior Program Accountant on the Mi team will be executing on the responsibilities listed below:

  • Ensure program billings for school participation fees and teacher professional development programs are issued timely and accurately and recorded properly in QuickBooks Online. 
  • Monitor program accounts receivable and coordinate collection efforts with the program operations team.
  • Reconcile program revenue to budget monthly.
  • Post AP program payables, including instructor fees, annual stipends, classroom equipment, and exam fee subsidies, to bill.com for processing  ensuring accuracy of expense account classification and program activity coding. Nearly all our payables are released electronically through bill.com rather than via internally produced check. The volume of AP STEM & English program vendors exceeds 400 with multiple payments to vendors over the course of the year.   
  • Ensure the completeness of the AP program W-9 files

Mass Insight operatives a paperless operation, in nearly all departments. As such, the Senior Program Accountant will interact daily with the following software platforms (almost entirely cloud-based):

  • QuickBooks Online
  • Bill.com
  • Outlook
  • Excel
  • Box (knowledge management/file sharing platform)

Other software with which the Senior Program Accountant will engage include

  • Expensify
  • Online banking portal

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

●      Experience –

○      Either a minimum of six years of experience in bookkeeping and accounting, including experience processing both accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions

○      OR a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minimum of two years of experience

●      Experience working on a cloud-based general ledger/trial balance platforms

●      Proficiency using Excel, including experience using pivot table and formula functions

●      Strong organization and prioritization skills

●      Acute attention to detail

●      Effective communication skills, with the ability to receive information from and convey information to colleagues, clients and vendors in a concise, effective, and timely manner

Preferred Qualifications:

●      Bachelor’s degree in accounting

●      Experience preparing prepaid and accrued expense journal entries and unbilled or deferred revenue journal entries

●      Experience working in a nonprofit
