Starting pay is at $23/hour with $3.50 shift premium and $4,000/year night shift bonus. Hours are from 6pm-630am on 2-2-3 rotation. 

Summary of Role

The Process Chemist is accountable for driving results in a fast-paced environment by understanding reaction mechanisms and applying them to practical execution of given synthesis. Optimization of conditions to proposed and designed synthetic routes including but not limited to purity, loadings, equivalents, cycle times, work up procedures, and yields.  The Process Chemist must understand and able to perform routine analytical procedures to monitor reaction progress (i.e. TLC, GC, NMR, HPLC, KF) and be  able to isolate and purify products and intermediates by using standard laboratory techniques .  The Process Chemist must document using GMP Good Documentation Practices and prepare final reports for completed projects, including final procedures and compiling all analytical data.  The position requires superior leadership behaviors of the Sterling core competencies and non-negotiables, as well as expertise in functional competencies included in this position profile.

• Performs chemical reactions on a gram to multi-kilogram scale.
• Solves common synthetic problems.
• Understands and interprets all analytical data.
• Produces clear documentation of all results and procedures.
• Provides written and verbal updates to supervisors or clients.
• Manages and tracks project progress including monitoring timelines, raw materials, equipment availability and yields to ensure project success.
• Prepares production areas for cGMP project initiation or changeover.
• Keeps current in new developments within the chemistry/chemical industry.
• Ensures timely completion and compliance with cGMP and all other relevant company training requirements.

• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
• Ability to work a 12 hour shift within a 24/7 manufacturing schedule rotation.
• Basic knowledge and computer proficiency.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a science-related field with coursework in organic chemistry, or
• High school diploma or associate’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of chemical manufacturing experience
• Experience within an API facility is a plus
