THE OPPORTUNITY
Activ Surgical is introducing novel real-time intra-operative vision technology into minimally invasive surgery, meant to augment the traditional surgical video feed with complementary physiologic data.
We are looking for a real go-getter who loves being out in the market working directly with customers and partners, communicating a strategic vision, seeing around corners, and enabling organizational success. Someone who gets things done, despite the obstacles, and inspires the organization to do the same. The Vice President of Strategy & Partnerships blends product strategy and vision with demonstrated execution to help elevate Activ Surgical’s leadership on a national / global scale and support the strategic growth for the startup company. As a key member of the leadership team, this role reports directly to the COO.
Key Areas of Responsibility Include but not limited to:- Set the long-term vision, and corporate and product strategy, based on deep domain awareness and understanding of the market and customer challenges, to support the company's overall strategy, mission, and promise
- Determine market potential through deep market intelligence, competitive analysis, buyer personas, and customer needs
- Work closely with Executive team to evaluate and prioritize business development opportunities – partnerships, collaborations, etc. through rigorous and disciplined process including creation of business cases
- Scan the market to identify new growth areas and map the best path to enter - building, partnerships, or M&A
- Help model, present, and defend financial implications of various partnerships
- Regularly track and report out progress on the health of the partnerships and corporate development pipelines
- Partner with R&D to develop product and platform capabilities and technology roadmap
- Act as a strategic and analytical thinker that can blend business, product, and technology strategies to develop a compelling vision and strategy for partner success and corporate development
- Lead the market and product strategy development and communicate this strategy with conviction
- Develop processes and criteria that gauge technical and market risks as well as sales and value potential
- Own the overachieving product portfolio for the business and ensure alignment with corporate strategy and tactics
- Define and build a cohesive product roadmap / vision built on market data that account for and integrate market trends, customer needs, and financial objectives
- Act as a thought leader participating in industry / partner events and building out compelling content strategies
- Collect and interpret the ‘voice of the customer’ to define long-term customer needs through direct customer conversations and potential customer advisory boards for internal teams
- Remain close to the tactical elements of the organizational execution to ensure they are effective and aligned to strategic goals
- Manage overall marketing organization ensuring execution of upstream and downstream marketing activities including upstream product development, downstream marketing tactics, and events and tradeshows.
Key Experience:- 15+ years of strategy, business development & marketing leadership in medical device or data technology space
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, technology, or a related field required, MBA highly preferred
- Demonstrated consistent growth in leadership roles
- Passion for customer interaction and product evangelism
- Strong public speaking, communication and presentation skills
- Built and executed both successful and unsuccessful business plans
- Proven experience delivering new products to market in a high paced environment
- Passion for emerging technologies and how they can deliver breakthrough solutions to customer problems
- Experience leading strategy and understanding of specified market segments
- A visionary with passion and drive - but not afraid to get your hands dirty.
- Ability to think on your feet, lead your team and change course quickly while doing multiple things at once
- Set clear priorities with the leadership team and rebalance based upon market direction and performance.
- Entrepreneurial spirit - willingness to challenge the status quo and try new things
