POSITION SUMMARY:

RGI is searching for full-time a Vice President, Controller to join our team.   As a Vice President, Controller you will be actively participate in the Executive Leadership Team as the most senior finance role in the organization. You will ensure development, implementation, and operation of cost-effective systems to meet both current and future needs of RGI. Responsible for overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization. Spearheads the organization's financial reporting, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Shepherds the financial planning and budget management functions for Rappahannock Goodwill Industries (RGI). Supports the mission of RGI and its affiliates by ensuring the correct information reaches and informs decision-makers on a timely basis. Enhances financial viability through wise stewardship of resources, including appropriate systems of internal controls. This position is remote but will need to be within 2 hours drive from Fredericksburg, VA 22408. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
 
  • Works effectively with RGI’s leadership team to develop overall corporate strategy, assesses the organizational performance against both the annual budget and strategic plan. Guides the development of tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the CEO and makes actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and interpreted financial data to facilitate decision-making based on budgeted, actual, and projected outcomes.
  • Responsible for Grants Accounting and Financial Grant Reporting.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with the banking community to optimize the agency's position when seeking lending services, insurance, and investment services.
  • Develop and recommend strategies for investing capital resources to meet the strategic and financial goals of the agency.
  • Oversees the development and execution of the annual budget.
  • Monitor the investment portfolio to ensure compliance with policy and to optimize returns. 
  • Oversee the annual audit, prepare attorney letters, engagement and representation letters, take corrective actions relating to audit findings and observations, and implement audit recommendations.
  • Monitor real estate and other capital assets and pursue appropriate courses of action to preserve resources.
  • Effectively lead and develop the accounting staff.
  • Managing and reviewing reconciliations of accounts to the satisfaction of management to ensure that the books of record are correctly reflecting the financial performance and health of the company at any point in time.
  • Responsible for check signing, wire transfers, and intercompany transfers.
  • Respond to government compliance reporting accurately and timely for RGI, including but not limited to federal, state, and local governments.
  • Proactively keep Executive Staff advised of the daily, critical financial findings, the progress of action plans determined by upper management, and any departmental activities.
  • Delegate and review accounting tasks. Responsible for the professional development of team. Provide direction to staff and assist in the investigation and resolution of problems. Evaluate performance and provide counseling and coaching to employees. Initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, terminations, or disciplinary measures.
  • Ensure compliance with company and government policy and safeguard the company's assets through informed review, random testing, and follow-up on routine and non-routine transactions involving the most significant expense to the company.
  • Monitor cash flow and line of credit availability.
  • Other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENS:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or business data analytics, and minimum7 years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and related experience. CPA preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience of accounting staff.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting practices with demonstrated ability to make appropriate and accurate accounting decisions.
  • Manage multi-task administrative demands
  • Perform a variety of complicated tasks
  • Experience in P&L variance analysis, balance sheet, and account reconciliations
  • Experience in managing processes and developing standards
  • High-level proficiency in a variety of accounting and financial software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Excel and multiple accounting systems
  • Self-motivated and directed with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Confidential, organized, analytical, and detail-oriented
  • Excellent communication skills required as well as the ability to interact with all departments within the organization and external customers
  • May be subject to background check.

  • Verbal and written communications, bending/walking/lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Office environment with occasional travel (including use of personal car) and variable work schedule.

Pay Range
$110,000.00   Annually to $140,000.00   Annually
