The Quality Control Gemologist is responsible for ensuring all merchandise that passes through the GSN inventory department meets the quality standards set for in the GSN Merchandise Standards Manual.


Key Responsibilities
  • Work amongst a team of gemologists to ensure the identification of a diamond or gemstone is correct.
  • Work with the Director of Gemology to identify consistent and continual errors by vendors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements
  • Must be a Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America or an FGA from the Gemological Association of Great Britain.
  • Ideal candidate will have worked with diamonds and colored gemstones, in an evaluation capacity, for at least 1 year.

  • Working knowledge of diamonds and traditional colored gemstones and their visual characteristics

  • Proficient in using both a jeweler’s loupe and gemological microscope.

  • Know how to use traditional gemology tools such as the refractometer, polariscope, dichroscope, Chelsea filter, as well as other basic testing equipment.

  • Able to visually differentiate between diamonds and “diamond” simulants.

  • Able to separate natural colored gemstones from synthetics.

  • Understand which colored gemstones will have inclusions and blemishes and which gemstones will not.

  • Able to visually look at a gemstone and estimate the carat weight range and by sight then be able to verify accurately.

  • Have the skills to research and identify gemstones they are not familiar with.

  • Be knowledgeable on how to properly test precious metals using testing acids.

  • Good understanding of the diamond and colored gemstone industry.

  • Desire to continually educate on new diamond and gemstone treatments.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
