Direct Care Counselor | Temp to Hire position $17/hr. | On-Site Philadelphia, PA 19143

We’re seeking a compassionate and reliable Direct Care Counselor to provide support, training, and supervision to individuals living in their own homes or with family. This role focuses on helping individuals build independence, make choices, and enjoy an enhanced quality of life.

A day in the life of a Direct Care Counselor 

·       Implement and monitor Individual Support Plans (ISPs), offering feedback and recommendations as needed.

·       Provide guidance and supervision in daily living activities, including cooking, personal hygiene, dressing, eating, cleaning, and other life skills—encouraging independence whenever possible.

·       Create and support opportunities for recreational, cultural, and educational experiences at home and in the community.

·       Foster a respectful, supportive environment that emphasizes dignity, inclusion, and choice for individuals with disabilities.

·       Build professional, trusting relationships with families and support staff while maintaining clear boundaries.

·       Transport individuals safely, following all relevant laws and procedures; assist with boarding and exiting vehicles when needed.

·       Complete accurate progress notes and other required documentation promptly after each shift.

Requirements for the Direct Care Counselor position

• High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
• Prior experience supporting individuals with special needs (either professionally or through personal/family experience).
• Ability to work independently with flexibility, creativity, and commitment to high-quality care.
