Job Summary:
The Nuclear Criticality Safety Consultant provides technical assistance in developing criticality safety documents and analyses, criticality safety controls, and related technical support documentation. Ensure that the development of criticality safety documentation complies with requirements and (as necessary) any applicable controls are implemented in field procedures. Conduct Criticality Safety Program assessments and maintain program manuals. 
 
Duties / Responsibilities:
Typical job duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Collaborate with operating organizations to author criticality safety evaluations, perform NCS analyses, and develop the safety basis for fissile material operations. 
  • Evaluate accident sequences and identifies Items Relied on for Safety to ensure inadvertent nuclear criticality is highly unlikely.
  • Participate in NCS response to programmatic issues and criticality process deviations/infractions.
  • Develop proposed changes to existing NCS programmatic policy and implementing documents.
  • Develop computer models to evaluate normal operations and process upsets with regards to NRC license limits.
  • Establish limits and controls for plant activities to maintain safe, effective, and efficient operations.
  • Ensure NCS requirements are adequately implemented.
  • Participate in audits and inspections, incident investigations, and design reviews. 

 
Minimum Qualifications / Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in nuclear engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics or related field.
  • Domonnstrated previous experience in developing, reviewing, and maintaining criticality safety documents. 
  • Ability to obtain “Q” security clearance [Active “Q” within past two years preferred]. 
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with no dual citizenship.

 
Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Possess a high level of attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Proficient with MS Office applications. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency of SCALE/KENO and/or MCNP. 

  
Working Conditions and Travel Requirements:

The primary work location will be in south-central Ohio supporting the Piketon, OH HALEU Demonstration facility.  Remote work is permitted, with some travel required unless the candidate is in proximity to Piketon, OH.  Travel will be in accordance with GSA rates for reimbursement.
