Required Experience

  • Minimum 9 years experience with Bachelor's Degree and Master’s Degree
    Minimum 19 years experience with B.S. degree

Functional Responsibility:

  • Apply spectral remote sensing principles and methods to analyze data and solve problems including: detecting slight radiometric changes in remote sensor data and quantify and characterize radiometric changes. Additionally, assess quantitative changes over time and identify anomalies that correlate with patterns of life activity changes. Utilize the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Day-Night-Band images to extract radiometric measurements and quantify changes in light intensity over time.
  • Demonstrate the ability to and conduct temporal radiometric analysis of VIIRS data using existing tools to attempt to exploit the VIIRS data to identify radiometric changes to nighttime lights that could be caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Collaborate with the scientific community to best understand how to accurately process VIIRS Day-Night Band (DNB) data. This work can include small amounts of open research, as needed, to assist with their understanding of the VIIRS system and data types.


  • Background in spectral remote sensing, image science
  • Experience programming in tool development in ENVI/IDL
  • Experience using VIIRS remote sensor data and characterizing radiometric changes over time


  • Degree in image science, remote sensing, or physics preferred

Working Conditions:

Work is typically based in a busy office environment and subject to frequent interruptions. Business work hours are normally set from Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, however some extended or weekend hours may be required. Additional details on the precise hours will be informed to the candidate from the Program Manager/Hiring Manager.

Physical Requirements:

May be required to lift and carry items weighting up to 25 lbs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching, and bending throughout the work day.

Background Screening/Check/Investigation:

Successful Completion of a Background Screening/Check/Investigation will/may be required as a condition of hire.
