    BASIC FUNCTION:

    The purpose of this position is to make daily and periodic scheduled rounds of Hospital facilities and satellite buildings for the purpose of observation and controlling flying or crawling insects and animals throughout the hospital.

    NATURE AND SCOPE:

    Interacts with immediate staff members, University/Hospital officials and the general public. Outside contracted exterminators.

    PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    Make daily and periodic scheduled rounds of Hospital facilities and satellite buildings for the purpose of observations and controlling flying or crawling insects and animals. These areas are to include but, are not limited to the following; patient rooms, pantries, utility closets, lounges, examination rooms, labs sleeping quarters, electrical closets, medication rooms, restrooms, corridors, stairwells, offices, operating rooms, kitchen and cafeteria, gift shop, maintenance shops, snack bar, waiting rooms, locker rooms and the ancillary areas.
     
    Aid in determining the type of Pesticides that are not suitable for the wide range of insects and animals involved and the nature of the areas to be exterminated.

    Maintains a current knowledge of methods and techniques of exterminations. 
    Maintains current records and logs of areas repair extermination equipment when possible.

    Studies the field of Pest Extermination for methods and techniques of improved operations.

    Consults and assists contract exterminator when necessary. Inventories and maintains an adequate supply of pesticides.

    Recommends reordering of supplies and equipment to the Supervisors. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

    CORE COMPETENCIES:

    Knowledge of Pest Control policies and procedures in order to determine the type of Pesticides that are not suitable for the wide range of insects and animals involved and the nature of the area to be exterminated.

    Ability to understand written and oral instructions. Ability to use dilution ratio when mixing chemicals.
    Ability to determine work routine and perform proficiently under minimum supervision.

    Must have manual ability to perform such task as spraying chemicals in high and lo\v areas.

    Must inspect ground areas routinely and provide necessary treatment in accordance with schedule.

    Preference for routine repetitious activities with consideration for patients, visitors, and staff.

    Physically able to lift a maximum of 75 lbs. and frequently carry items weighing up to 251bs.

    Physically able to perform constant bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and do a considerable amount of walking and standing to inspect or service infected areas.

    Ability to adapt to the frequent contact with toxic chemical agents.
    Must adhere to policies and procedures in the use of all toxic chemicals. Competence in both oral and written English.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with staff, physicians. Hospital and University officials, and the general public.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    High School Graduate or General Equivalent Diploma (G.E.D.)
    Three (3) years experience in the field of extermination.
    Must be a certified Pest Control Technician in the District of Columbia.
