1. Purpose of Job

The General Mechanic provides repairs, maintenance and overhaul of mechanical equipment, such as air compressors, vacuum pumps, water pumps, exam tables, O.B. tables, operating room tables, autoclaves, laundry equipment, cafeteria equipment, kitchen equipment, miscellaneous patient room equipment and renal dialysis water treatment equipment.

Repairs, maintains and overhauls the following: assembled, various patient care devices, patient stretchers, exam tables, O.B. tables, operating room tables, laundry equipment

Inspects and performs minor maintenance on various types of equipment.

Inspects medical gas, laboratory gas and ethylene oxide gas systems and changes tanks when necessary.

Makes minor electrical repairs including changing lamps.

Makes minor plumbing repairs including unstopping drains, toilets and sinks and stopping leaks.

6.
Assists skilled plumbers and electrician when necessary.

7.
Makes recommendations on changes in preventative maintenance program and need for spare parts.

8.
Assists in special activities and weather- related events.

9.
Performs analysis on renal dialysis hardness and quality. Reads and records renal dialysis water system pressures.

10.
