    Thompson Child & Family Focus is seeking a passionate, committed individual to provide a stable, caring and sustainable relationship in each child’s life. The Friends of the Children-Charlotte program at Thompson is an affiliate of a national professional mentoring organization. Our model is proven to break the cycle of generational poverty for children who face the highest risks by pairing them with a Professional Mentor or “Friend.” 

    The program is committed to serve the community’s most vulnerable youth for 12.5 years, kindergarten through high school graduation – no matter what. The Professional Mentor will work one-on-one with eight youth.

    Required Education and Skills

    The Professional Mentor must: Nurture and promote each child’s individual strengths, talents and abilities; Help assure physical and emotional well-being; Teach life and academic skills in creative ways; Model responsible behavior; Be culturally-competent and trauma-informed; Have superior scheduling and time management skills; Have data entry and database management skills, as well as a commitment to detail accuracy. The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree and have at least 2 years’ experience working with young children. A valid NC driver’s license, at least 3 years of driving with a driver’s license and clean driving record are required.
