POSITION SUMMARY:
The Communities Reporter, South Dallas County is a full-time position that is part of KERA&rsquo;s growing newsroom. 

North Texas is a business-centric hub home to a booming population. The Communities Reporter will cover news, developments and trends in the suburbs and diverse communities across southern Dallas County. 

The ideal candidate is a thoughtful and experienced reporter with a passion for elevating people&rsquo;s voices. This person must balance policy knowledge with human-centered reporting mindful of equity issues as they report on challenges, progress and solutions in our suburban communities.

We&rsquo;re looking for a strong audio and digital reporter who&rsquo;s comfortable going live on the radio. The person in this role must be versatile, productive and resilient, with an ability to write, voice and produce quick-turn daily stories as well as dive into bigger-picture feature reporting &mdash; all while remaining firmly rooted in the ethics and standards of public media. We expect this person to write with depth and nuance about complex community issues that have a real impact in South Dallas County and the wider region.

This is a great opportunity for a reporter with stellar ideas and strong journalistic experience. The South Dallas County Communities reporter will write and produce everything from daily news spots to in-depth features on all KERA&rsquo;s platforms: radio, video, social media and keranews.org. KERA leads The Texas Newsroom -- a regional news hub of public radio stations across the state and NPR -- so the reporter&rsquo;s stories will air locally, statewide and often nationally.  

This position is classified as FLSA non-exempt, is eligible for overtime and reports to the Specialty Beats Editor.


WHAT YOU'LL DO: 

Tell stories about communities around South Dallas County through the people who live there. 
Create engaging multimedia stories from interviews, research, data and analysis. Find creative ways to report on issues that touch everyone. The goal: High impact with deep substance. 
Stay on top of major news, identify trends, and develop deep knowledge of policies and how they affect local communities. 
Build and maintain a community around the beat, including industry leaders, elected officials, experts, researchers, and community members. &ndash; There will be an emphasis on community engagement and on-the-ground reporting. 
Produce a mix of daily news and enterprise and investigative stories. 
Fill in on newscasts as needed. 
Work collaboratively as part of KERA&rsquo;s team and with partners across the state to build expertise, contribute compelling story ideas and experiment with innovative storytelling techniques. 
Cover breaking news in North Texas and beyond, sometimes outside the scope of the beat. This includes a rotating on-call schedule and work outside the standard 9-5 business hours.  
Develop distinctive audio and digital stories focused on the KERA listening area, with statewide and national context and impact. 
Actively participate in KERA fundraising campaigns.

3 or more years of professional journalism experience
Passion for community/solutions journalism 
Strong audio reporting and production skills, and solid news writing skills 
Ability to generate dynamic, creative story ideas 
Ability to shift journalistic modes quickly, from deadline reporting to deep investigative work
Demonstrated commitment to diversity in reporting and sourcing
Knowledge of Associated Press style, ability to exercise sound news judgment and follow KERA/NPR ethics and editorial standards
Ability to conduct newscasts
Passionate and enthusiastic about public media journalism and serving a diverse North Texas audience
Reliable transportation required for assignments/activities that involve work outside of the office

Expertise in community reporting, particularly focused on disparities in underserved communities
Public radio production experience 
Knowledge of North Texas people, cultures, issues and geography as well as national and international issues and events 
Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages common in Texas

SALARY RANGE
$60,000 - $70,000 annually, depending on experience

POSITION SUMMARY:
Are you passionate about working to equitably represent communities in news coverage and engaging with real people to help shape stories?  Then this is the job for you. The Audience Producer will create content to grow, diversify and engage local and regional audiences on all of KERA&rsquo;s platforms with a focus on digital. This includes our websites, on-demand audio, email, and social media platforms.

Reporting to the Audience Editor, the producer will be a member of the newsroom audience engagement team helping to curate and produce news content for digital platforms and determine the best ways to connect with our audiences. The position will also include original reporting for online and radio.

This person will help newsroom colleagues package their reporting for specific audiences, as well as report and produce original content to help bring digital innovation to stories that cover important issues affecting communities in North Texas and across the state. 

They will play a key role in newsroom engagement initiatives on various platforms, including user-generated content, social listening, and events. This producer will help bring new voices and perspectives into our coverage and will be an integral part of KERA&rsquo;s efforts to grow as a news organization that represents the North Texas community.

This position is full-time, will be assigned a shift 1-2 hours outside the typical workday and will be expected to work some weekends.

This position is classified as FLSA non-exempt, is eligible for overtime and reports to the Audience Editor, KERA News.


WHAT YOU'LL DO: 

Serve as part of the newsroom audience team helping to fill daily production requirements, building and copyediting web stories and crafting content and video for the newsroom&rsquo;s social media, on-demand audio and email products 
Produce and co-report stories focused on digital storytelling and engagement  
Develop and execute engagement initiatives, special projects on digital and legacy platforms and at events 
Focus storytelling and engagement initiatives on building audiences and sources in marginalized communities 
Respond to breaking news events and get information out to audiences quickly on multiple platforms

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Arlington Accountability Reporter is a full-time position that is part of KERA&rsquo;s Newsroom and reports to the Collaborations Editor.

The Reporter will focus on holding local and regional officials accountable for the decisions they make and the money they control. Coverage focus will center on Arlington City Hall, Tarrant County, state and national government as it relates to Arlington; population growth and changing demographics and the City&rsquo;s decision making related to growth and change; City organizations and institutions, including public transportation authorities, libraries, public parks and the police force.

The ideal candidate is a fearless journalist with knowledge of and experience covering municipal government and policy. We are looking for a creative storyteller who is audience-centered and able to tell stories using data. The reporter must be versatile, resourceful and resilient &ndash; and bring context to daily enterprise stories as well as deeper dives.

This is an FLSA classified non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime. The position directly reports to the Collaborations Editor.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

POSITION SUMMARY:
KERA is seeking a creative, fast-moving storyteller who can pick up a camera, find the shot, and turn it into something people want to watch, then repeat the process for multiple brands under the KERA family.  

The Multimedia Producer will co-produce and direct with KERA colleagues across the organization. This individual will shoot and edit original content across all of KERA's brands including multi-media promotional spots, television fundraising campaigns, and stories that bring our community to life. 

The ideal candidate is just as comfortable directing a shoot in the field as they are turning around a polished edit on a tight deadline. This individual will think like a marketer, not just an editor, and recognize that every cut serves the story and the brand.

KERA welcomes applicants who have never worked in a television setting.

This position is classified as FLSA exempt and is not eligible for overtime. The Multimedia Producer reports to the Creative Director and is a member of the Creative Services team.


WHAT YOU'LL DO: 

Direct, produce, shoot and edit original video content across KERA's brands (KERA TV, KERA News, KXT, NTX Now, KERA Kids, Think, From the Top and more) 
Bring an eye for visually compelling, well-composed footage in the field (lighting, set choice, sound, subjects, edit, etc.) 
Edit quickly and efficiently for multiple platforms &mdash; broadcast, social, digital 
Produce organization promotional spots, sponsor spots, and TV fundraising campaign content, and comfortable with multi-cam directing in a live switch environment 
Apply marketing and storytelling instincts to make every piece purposeful, not just polished 
Collaborate with the Creative Services team to keep content moving across a busy, multi-brand pipeline 
Stay up to date on visual trends, tools, and platform best practices 
Occasionally empower colleagues across department to self-produce content 
Develop innovative ways to enhance and elevate all content 
Manage media assets and (or refine asset management practices at KERA)
