      <description><![CDATA[The Dawes Arboretum is currently recruiting a Custodian to join our Facilities team. This is a full-time, non-exempt position, with a 40-hour per week schedule.  Scheduled shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. 

The Custodian is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of our guests by keeping Arboretum buildings clean and sanitized.

Schedule will be Sunday-Thursday, 11:00am-7:30pm.
 
Some of the specific responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
&middot;         Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors; Cleaning and dusting furniture; Washing windows and walls.
&middot;         Cleaning restrooms daily, including sanitizing bathroom fixtures and refilling bathroom dispensers for toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towels.
&middot;         Emptying trash and recycling receptacles in Arboretum buildings and bathrooms.
&middot;         Assuring building safety during inclement weather by shoveling, salting, and providing slip protection on wet floors.
&middot;         Maintaining inventory of cleaning supplies.
&middot;         Initiating maintenance service requests and work orders.
&middot;         Assisting with set-up and tear-down for Arboretum events and internal meetings.

Qualifications:
&middot;         High School diploma or General Education degree (GED); or an equivalent combination of education, training, and education.
&middot;         Valid driver&rsquo;s license and evidence of insurability.
&middot;         Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
&middot;         Ability to work evening, weekend, and holiday hours as needed.
&middot;         Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
&middot;         Strong attention to detail.
&middot;         Proven ability to manage time and multiple priorities.
&middot;         Customer service mentality and ability to positively interact with staff, members, and guests.
&middot;         Previous experience in a janitorial or custodial role is a plus.

The Digital Media Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing digital strategies that advance The Arboretum&rsquo;s mission and visibility. This position manages integrated campaigns across social media, paid search, and other digital channels by creating, curating, and managing engaging content that promotes meaningful interaction, strengthens brand presence, and fosters connection.


Some of the specific responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
&middot;         Develop and implement a social media content calendar in alignment with organizational priorities, seasonal programming, and centennial goals. 
&middot;         Create, manage and share creative multi-media content on social media, web and other platforms to strategically engage the public; actively monitor and analyze the effectiveness of The Arboretum&rsquo;s online channels.
&middot;         Plan and produce videos, photos and digital marketing materials for print and digital campaigns.
&middot;         Manage social media related graphic design content, ensuring effective messaging and engagement.
&middot;         Collaborate and consult with internal stakeholders to generate ideas and produce engaging content that highlights the diverse expertise, initiatives, and resources of The Arboretum in ways that further the organization&rsquo;s mission and goals.
&middot;         Research and implement new social media tools and communication trends.
&middot;         Identify audiences, create specific strategies, establish engagement funnels, proactively identify interests and concerns of stakeholders, tailor messaging and devise effective calls to action.
&middot;         Monitor, engage and respond to external public inquiries and comments on all Arboretum social media platforms in a timely, professional and comprehensive manner that reflects The Arboretum&rsquo;s values and a focus on maintaining integrity, managing a positive reputation and building community relationships. Foster an inclusive online community that celebrates nature, learning and belonging.
&middot;         Manage Google Ad Grant, Google Analytics, and the Google Business Interface, as well as digital advertising campaigns.
&middot;         Monitor and respond to business reviews on all platforms, tracking sentiment, surfacing issues and documenting for internal analysis.
&middot;         Support media and public relations efforts as needed through content amplification and digital storytelling.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement upon successful completion of onboarding and demonstrated ability to perform duties independently. Hybrid status is not guaranteed and may be modified or discontinued at any time based on business needs.

      <title><![CDATA[Seasonal Trails Assistant - Newark, OH]]></title>

      <description><![CDATA[We are currently recruiting a Seasonal Trails Assistant to work with our Landscape & Conservation branch for the 2026 spring and summer seasons.

Under the direction of our Ecosystems Manager, the Seasonal Trails Assistant will be responsible for routine trail maintenance tasks to ensure guest accessibility and trail beautification throughout the Arboretum&rsquo;s grounds, collections, and natural areas.
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt, seasonal position with an hourly rate of $16.00.  
Job Responsibilities:


Perform routine landscape maintenance tasks such as mowing and invasive plant removals within trails.
         Operate a variety of equipment to include but not limited to tractor, brush hog, excavator, stump grinder, chipper, trencher, chainsaw, mowers, backhoe, skid steer loader, and transport vehicles.
         Assist with sign installations.
         Assist with tree removals within trails.
         Assist with event preparation, including set-up and tear down.
         Remove leaves, debris, and litter from grounds.
        Assist with special projects as needed.


Qualifications:

         High school diploma/general education degree (GED), or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
         Must be at least 18 years of age.
         Must be able and willing to work outside in all types of weather conditions.
         Ability to follow directions and work well with others.
         Ability to independently perform job requirements in a reasonable amount of time.
         Must be able to lift in excess of 50 pounds, walk frequently, bend, climb a ladder, stoop, dig, and raise arms above head.
         Must have a current valid driver&rsquo;s license with acceptable driving record.
         Regular and timely attendance is essential.
         Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.

      <description><![CDATA[The Dawes Arboretum is actively recruiting two (2) Residents to participate in our 2026 Environmental Professionals Training Program.  

The Environmental Professionals Training Program, similar to a medical residency, is an Advanced Training Program specifically designed for recent graduates and emerging conservation professionals seeking direct experience and practical skills to enhance credentials and assist in career advancement opportunities. This program provides specialized knowledge in conservation of natural resources and landscape management through training alongside Arboretum staff.  Program participants, or &ldquo;Residents,&rdquo; gain the skills necessary to conduct ecosystem restoration, invasive species control, plant propagation, educational programming, and wildlife monitoring, while networking with fellow conservation professionals in the field.
 
Anticipated program dates: April-July 2026 (12-week program).


Qualifications:
&middot;         Degree in Ecology, Horticulture, Botany, Natural Resources, or related field.
&middot;         Good organizational skills and computer proficiency (Windows, Word, Excel, etc.)
&middot;         Self-motivation, willingness to learn and eagerness to apply newly acquired skills.
&middot;         Independent decision making and problem-solving ability.
&middot;         Desire to work outside at any time of year.
&middot;         Ability to maintain professional, positive communication in person and in writing.
&middot;         Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends. (Typical Resident work schedule is Monday-Thursday, 32 hours per week).

Compensation:  
This program and the included trainings and licensures (see above) are provided at no cost to participants. Residents must commit to a 12-week term, maintaining a 32-hour per week work schedule.  Each Resident will receive a grant-funded stipend of $5,184, paid across the duration of the program term (equates to $13.50 per hour). Upon successful completion of the program, participants receive an Arboretum-issued certificate of completion, and if applicable, letters of recommendation.
