WHAT YOU&rsquo;LL BE DOING 

Lead targeted outreach to companies of interest for Inc.&rsquo;s programs-- including Inc. 5000, Female Founders, Power Partners, Best in Business, Best Workplaces, Founder-Friendly Investors, and Inc. Regionals -- to develop a growing pipeline of applicants and increasing engagement with repeat winners, coordinating with stakeholders across editorial and consumer marketing to support program revenue goals.
Manage Inc.&rsquo;s database of company candidates, updating daily with new additions across programs, and coordinate with writers and editors to secure contacts from timely editorial coverage.
Develop new leads and ongoing prospects for Inc.&rsquo;s programs, as well as nurture existing relationships with community partner organizations to extend applicant pipelines for recognition programs.
Review program applications and conduct exploratory calls with promising applicants to present to Inc. Editors for coverage consideration.
Support recognition program events promoting upcoming recognition programs, coordinating outreach and new invites, event logistics, and event programming.
Work with Inc.&rsquo;s editorial, social media, marketing, newsletter, and PR teams to effectively promote Inc.&rsquo;s recognition programs through compelling editorial and multimedia content, developing new ideas for enhanced promotion.
Prepare internal promotional materials ahead of list launches.
Prepare written copy as needed for digital and print production.
Pitch and write quick-turn and reported stories featuring honorees of Inc.&rsquo;s recognition programs for Inc.com.

 
WHAT WE&rsquo;RE LOOKING FOR 

Demonstrated interest in journalism and business or entrepreneurship coverage.
Strong writing, editing, and research skills for digital and print content.
Clear communication skills and comfort conducting interviews or exploratory calls.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines and track information.
Internship experience in editorial, media, or publishing preferred.
Familiarity with CMS platforms and Airtable is a plus.

WHAT YOU&rsquo;LL BE DOING 

Lead and manage the Inc. news team, including two freelance writers, providing clear assignments, feedback, and coaching.
Edit and publish daily news stories across topics including technology, entrepreneurship, workplace, and the broader business landscape.
Monitor trending topics across major platforms and news outlets to identify opportunities for rapid response coverage.
Employ digital news best practices, including Discover-forward headlines, strategic packaging, and smart distribution.
Analyze audience metrics using tools such as Google Analytics and Parse.ly to inform coverage priorities and refine editorial strategies.
Improve newsroom workflows, identifying efficiencies that support speed, accuracy, and quality.
Collaborate with senior editors to shape the news team&rsquo;s editorial direction and to maintain consistency with Inc.&rsquo;s voice and mission.
Drive audience growth through keen news judgment, smart editing, and a deep understanding of what resonates with entrepreneurs and business leaders.

 
WHAT WE&rsquo;RE LOOKING FOR 

3-5+ years of newsroom experience, ideally in digital business, tech, or general news.
Proven editing experience, particularly with fast-moving daily news.

As an editorial intern, you will be directly involved in the overall editorial process, seeing your stories develop from start to finish. This is an especially good opportunity for aspiring business journalists, but any with intense curiosity about the way the world works will find an enriching professional and personal experience will be considered and should apply.

This role will focus on building high-quality, user-facing digital experiences related to Digital Marketing and Ad Tech, making a significant impact on the Inc.com and FastCompany.com brands.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Design and build features for our AdTech and subscription platforms on our next generation front-end applications for the Inc.com and FastCompany.com digital properties.
Write, test, debug, and deploy code across a variety of languages and frameworks, including JavaScript/Node.js, React, and Typescript.
Constantly improve front-end app performance - page load times, page weight, network calls, async loading of assets, CDN cache-control, etc.
Integrate with 3rd party services and APIs to build solutions for paywall, subscriptions, entitlements, SSO, and data reporting, to name a few.
Work directly in our CMS environment (WordPress) to enhance Editorial workflows for content publishing.
Improve workflows and dev practices for our engineering team, empowering you to make an impact to our engineering culture.
Identify security problems and improve the security aspects of our applications.
Collaborate with Design and Product teams to define optimal solutions and user flows.
Mentor and grow the skills of colleagues through pairing, design reviews, and code reviews. 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Have 5+ years of professional experience working with modern web frameworks in the media space.
Have experience with TypeScript, JavaScript/Node.js, and React.
Experience in Google Ad Manager and related Google solutions (GA, GTM) is required.
Have knowledge of software principles, application architecture, data structures, coding conventions, automated testing frameworks and security best practices.
Obsessive about front-end application performance, and fast page speed techniques for optimal user experience.
Experience with module loaders like Webpack, Parcel, and Vite
Have a sound understanding of cloud-based architectures and deployments on Amazon Web Services (AWS), CI/CD (GitHub Actions) and related tooling.
Experience with CDNs / Fastly in order to optimize edge caching for your applications.
Have strong opinions about maintainable software solutions but are also willing to have constructive debates and work towards the best options for the team.
