We are currently seeking an Application Engineering Intern to join our team and support innovative, customer-focused engineering solutions in a fast-paced environment.


Position Summary
The Application Engineering Intern will support the design, evaluation, and application of fastening solutions across a variety of industries and customer applications. This role provides hands-on exposure to engineering processes, customer collaboration, and technical problem-solving while assisting senior application engineer and leadership. The intern will gain practical experience in product design, testing, and technical support within a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Support application engineering team with CAD modeling, drawings, and documentation for fastener products.
Aid in translating customer requirements into preliminary engineering recommendations.
Assist application engineers in the identification of parts, based on customer specifications, from EFC&rsquo;s product portfolio.
Assist in evaluating customer requirements and supporting the development of fastening solutions for OEMs, Tier suppliers, and distribution partners.
Participate in customer design reviews, technical meetings, and internal project discussions.
Help prepare technical presentations, product documentation, and engineering reports.
Assist with product testing, validation efforts, and data collection under supervision.
Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of fastening applications.
Contribute to maintaining engineering standards, specifications, and product data.
Assist with technical training materials and support internal knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Conduct research on industry standards, materials, and competitive products.
Support RFQ preparation, technical proposals, and quotation activities as needed.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including sales, product management, and customer service.

Learning Objectives

Gain exposure to fastener design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Develop proficiency in CAD tools and engineering documentation.
Build understanding of customer-facing engineering support and applications.
Learn industry standards (ISO, SAE, DIN, ASTM) and validation methods.

Qualifications
Education

Currently pursuing a Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
Junior or senior standing preferred.

Skills & Competencies

Basic knowledge of mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals.
Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) preferred.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Eagerness to learn and take initiative in a technical setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior internship, coursework, or project experience related to manufacturing, product design, or mechanical systems.
Exposure to fasteners, materials, or industrial applications is a plus.

Review blueprints and quotes for accuracy.
Source new products and initiate Requests for Quotes with existing and potential suppliers.
Research and evaluate new potential suppliers.
Work on special projects as directed by management.
Promote a collaborative, team-oriented culture and help address barriers to an optimal work environment.

Qualifications

Proven experience in purchasing or procurement roles.
Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Experience with SAP is preferred.

Establish and track performance metrics, holding staff accountable to safety, productivity, and quality standards.
Maintain documentation of staff performance, training, and certifications.
Ensure accuracy and efficiency in shipping, receiving, and stocking while minimizing errors and costs.
Oversee order processing for inbound and outbound shipments.
Monitor and maintain warehouse equipment, coordinating repairs as needed.
Enforce and track cycle counting schedules.
Coordinate repairs, maintenance, and supply stock levels in partnership with building management and Operations.
Provide and document forklift certifications and training for all warehouse staff.
Work closely with Quality and Purchasing teams to process RMAs/returns.


What We&rsquo;re Looking For

Associate&rsquo;s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or 6 months&ndash;1 year of relevant warehouse leadership experience.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, Epicor P21, online shipping tools, and standard warehouse technology.
Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain).
Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage people, processes, and performance in a fast-paced environment.
