Role Overview

The Senior Director of Finance & Operations will serve as TKH’s strategic financial and operational leader, ensuring that the organization’s resources are managed with integrity, transparency, and foresight. This role will guide multi-year financial planning, oversee investments and banking relationships, and provide the executive team and Board with insights to support data-driven decision-making. In addition to finance, the Senior Director will oversee compliance, Human Resources, facilities, and technology, ensuring TKH has strong financial procedures, reliable internal controls, effective HR systems, and efficient operational infrastructure. They will supervise a team of four Operations staff, manage outside vendors, and help set a vision that advances organizational outcomes and professional development goals across the department.

Financial Management and Administration (40%)

  • Lead financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis for the executive leadership team and Board.

  • Lead multi-year financial planning, including determining costs per student, program, and site location to inform strategic and funding decisions.

  • Manage TKH’s savings, checking, and investment accounts, liaising with bank staff.

  • Manage TKH’s investment portfolio to ensure growth, manage risk, and determine a diversified strategy aligned with organizational goals.

  • Build financial literacy among managers, empowering budget owners to manage resources responsibly and engage in inclusive budgeting processes.

  • Ensure proper revenue recognition and classification of grants, including donor restrictions and conditional funding.

  • Oversee the submission of grant budgets and spend-downs, including accurate allocation of personnel salaries and systems for tracking time and effort across grants.

  • Prepare grant budget reports and financial reports (monthly, quarterly, annual, and as needed), including analysis of grant spending, remaining balances, and cost per student.

  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and strengthen internal controls, including approval of journal entries and segregation of duties.

  • Implement reconciliation processes for AR, AP, restricted net assets, and allocations.

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations: approval and processing of agency purchases and staff reimbursements, monitoring cash flow, managing AR/AP, payroll, tax compliance, bill payments, and grant spending.

  • Manage TKH’s accounting firm and coordinate the annual audit and all regulatory filings, liaising with the Board Treasurer and auditors.

Human Resources Oversight and Compliance (30%)

  • Manage TKH’s Professional Employer Organization (PEO) partner, ensuring compliance with labor laws and HR policies.

  • Develop and implement TKH’s organizational culture strategy, reinforcing equity, inclusion, and employee engagement.

  • Oversee the annual performance management cycle, including goal setting, feedback, and evaluations.

  • Support equitable and competitive compensation practices and employee development opportunities.

  • Ensure consistent HR compliance and reporting.

  • Oversee staff to ensure TKH maintains strong systems and processes that enable full compliance and reporting with all federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements

  • Oversee TKH’s contract creation process for all contractors and vendors to ensure contracts are secured, allocated, budgeted, tracked, and in compliance

  • Lead organization-wide management of legal affairs, liability, insurance, and other risk management strategies, updating TKH policies annually

Information Technology and Facilities Management (30%)

  • Oversee TKH’s facilities and IT infrastructure, including equipment, software, and hardware inventory management, and create clear and effective policies for asset management

  • Manage vendor and facility relationships, including contracts, leases, and insurance.

  • Liaise with the landlord, as needed, and ensure compliance with the lease

  • Lead TKH in developing a comprehensive vendor management policy while representing TKH to external vendors and operational partners

  • Develop and execute TKH’s data strategy and SOPs.

  • Oversee the implementation and org-wide adoption of Salesforce as the organization's primary CRM and data platform, including the development of accurate, useful dashboards for each department and Salesforce SOPs.

  • Build necessary IT infrastructure, systems, and policies, ensuring a seamless staff experience and adoption of TKH’s primary platforms, including Zoom, Slack, Asana, Barracuda, and enhancing the utilization of new AI features and tools.

  • Lead cybersecurity risk management, ensuring policies, training, and protections are in place to prevent and respond to cyber threats.

  • Guide organizational data strategy and ensure proper safeguards for sensitive information.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Financial management experience in a national non-profit with a $7M+ budget

  • 4+ years of experience managing and developing team members

  • HR oversight experience, including culture-building and performance management

  • Experience with compliance, risk management, facilities, IT, data, and vendor management

  • Fluent in Salesforce 

  • Fluent in Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks

  • Fluent in GAAP

Compensation

  • Full-time  $125,000-$160,000-year salary  (New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary closer to the start of the range, depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role)
