About The Role

The Controller is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all accounting operations and financial controls related to the company’s retail business. This individual will manage month-end close processes, financial reporting, inventory accounting, and internal controls across all store locations and digital commerce channels. The ideal candidate brings deep retail accounting expertise, a strong understanding of inventory and cost accounting, and the ability to lead a high-performing team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

This role will work cross-functionally with finance, operations, merchandising, supply chain, external auditors, and tax consultants to ensure accurate financial reporting and support data-driven decision-making across the business

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and manage all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and  inventory
  • Lead and manage all tax reporting and filing as well as business/corporate compliance matters at the company
  • Lead annual audit process, including preparation of supporting schedules and direct coordination with external auditors to ensure successful results and audit compliance
  • Manage and oversee all treasury functions, including cash management, banking relationships, and financial risk management.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls over financial transactions and reporting
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Lead and manage inventory accounting, including reconciliation, shrink reserves, and COGS accuracy
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and establishment of accounting policies, procedures, and operational strategies, including the review and implementation of process and system changes in line with business growth and regulatory compliance
  • Make recommendations for changes as needed, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures and implementing fraud prevention techniques.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop  the accounting team, fostering a culture of high performance, continuous learning, and collaboration

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required
  • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 4 years in a retail or multi-unit environment
  • Prior experience in public accounting, preferably with a Big 4 firm.
  • Extensive knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial management systems and tools: Microsoft Office, GSuite, and ERP systems (NetSuite strongly preferred).
  • Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across functions and lead process improvements
  • High level of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive financial information
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Availability during weekends and nights during peak periods
