Job Summary

Implements knowledge and expertise to successfully execute virus PD projects for AAV, lentivirus, retrovirus, and/or other biologics products

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, optimize, and characterize downstream processes for the manufacture of biopharmaceuticals such as AAV, lentivirus, retrovirus, and/or other biologics products for clinical and commercial GMP manufacturing
  • Lead projects by conceptualizing and executing process development studies and effectively resolve the client’s requirements and issues
  • Hands on experience with retrovirus and lentivirus on purification and filtration techniques, and AKTA chromatography
  • Effectively communicate results of own work through scientific meetings, presentations, discussions, documentation, inside the team and with clients in decision-making processes
  • Perform and lead junior staff on downstream process assays such as Q-PCR, HPLC, Western blot, SDS-PAGE, ELISA and transfer assays to QC if needed
  • Able to independently conceive experimental designs, make detailed observations, analyze and interpret data, propose improvements to and troubleshoot experimental protocols, write process report and support IND CMC documents
  • Other responsibilities as needed

Knowledge & Other Qualifications

  • Ph. D. in Virology or Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or related field; or
  • MS. in a related field with >5 years of experience

Other Characteristics

  • Working experience with retrovirus/lentivirus production is preferred
  • Embracing new virus technologies
  • Working knowledge of AKTA systems/software
  • Well-organized, able to manage multiple projects at a time
  • Strong ability to adapt, be flexible, and work independently and with resilience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Authorized to legally work in the United States without visa sponsorship 

Physical Requirements/Work Environment/Travel Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Pushing, pulling, standing, sitting
