Permit Specialist

At SOS Retail Services, we are leaders in the construction industry and provide retailers with a variety of design, construction, and project management services. Our innovative and collaborative approach to construction gives our clients the services they need.

We are currently looking for a Permit Specialist to join our team in the Franklin, TN office. We operate in a fast-moving environment where flexibility and a willingness to take on new tasks keeps things interesting. Our ideal candidate will be self-motivated, have a desire for learning and take the initiative to finish all assigned tasks within deadlines. We value passionate, down to earth “can do” people who enjoy fine-tuning small details without losing sight of the big picture. We hire team members who are meticulous and reliable with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

What you will be doing:

  • Conduct permitting research
  • Track and record requirements for permitting to management
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and building/health departments on specific permitting requirements
  • Call Codes Departments
  • Work in conjunction with field and office staff to submit applications and obtain permits
  • Print drawings/plan sets and prepare permit packages
  • Communicate needed trade and building permit requirements to field staff
  • Report progress on permits and/or code related issues to management
  • Upload plans and update tasks through online construction management portal
  • Write response letters to address code related issues
  • Travel up to 30%

What we’re looking for:

  • 3 years of experience working with permit departments in multiple states and jurisdictions
  • Knowledge of ADA building codes
  • Knowledge of construction techniques
  • Spec Control/Equipment experience
  • Ability to identify MEP and Structural Contract Documents
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
