Job Summary:

The Manager, Transfection Reagents, conducts qualitative and quantitative experimentation on chemical substances to support successful execution of virus projects including AAV as well as developing new strategies for product development.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Implement knowledge and expertise to successfully execute developmental projects for increased cell packaging efficiency of viruses such as AAV
  • Conduct independent process characterization for support across all labs; execute and maintain the high level of reagent quality required for all viral productions
  • Develop, improve, and customize products, equipment, formulas, processes, and analytical methods
  • Review daily work and interpretations for accuracy; investigate discrepancies with data results
  • Serve as a technical resource to staff
  • Participate in decision-making processes within the project team by actively engaging in scientific and technical discussions
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of areas of expertise in the laboratory
  • Drive execution of research strategy into product and process improvement
  • Write, review, and revise production SOPs as aligned with updated procedures
  • Other responsibilities as needed

Knowledge & Other Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field with >5 years of experience, or >3 years with Master of Science in related field

Other Characteristics:

  • Advanced technical and hands on experience with substrate production is highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of technical laboratory methods and principles; skilled in the operation of laboratory equipment, instruments, computer, and materials
  • Strong detail orientation and analytical skills for data evaluation and troubleshooting
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to adequately convey understanding of pertinent scientific information to peers
  • Microsoft Office experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Well-organized, able to maintain accurate and timely records of lab results; able to manage multiple projects at a time
  • Ability to independently design, execute, and summarize scientific results
  • Ability to teach/train other lab personnel
  • Authorized to legally work in the United States without visa sponsorship

  • Sitting for 50% of the time
  • Lifting up to 50lbs
  • Travel between Vigene’s Rockville sites
