OVERVIEW

Fortress Building Products is seeking a Innovations Product Development Engineer to join our Innovations team. This position will be responsible for facilitating in-house and 3rd party laboratory testing from early development stages to the start of production to ensure our products meet international compliance standards. The Innovations Product Development Engineer will also support standardization of drawings, manufacturing engineering, failure analysis, and quality assurance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Stay up to date on code and code changes.
    • Analyze new and developing product to adhere to codes
    • Maintain Code Listings and Compliance with 3rd party testing facility
  • Facilitate in-house testing.
    • Build samples
      • Mechanical aptitude
    • Assist with Beta Installations
    • Develop Stress-Strain curves for new materials
  • Use SolidWorks and SolidWorks FEA to analyze designs.
    • Failure analysis
    • Recommend design changes based on test results.
  • Facilitate 3rd party testing.
    • Point of contact for outside laboratories
    • Develop test plans with outside laboratories
    • Schedule testing
    • Schedule product sampling
    • Attend onsite testing as required
  • Support and maintain drawings.
    • New drawings
  • Support Manufacturing team.
    • Create and adjust drawings
    • Supply material information
    • Answering questions regarding designs
    • FAI analysis of developed products
  • Assist with development of new designs.
    • Use engineering data to ensure safe products and optimize material
    • Brainstorm new ideas
  • Use Wrike to track project responsibilities and timelines.
    • Submit required tasks on time
    • Compile necessary data where it can be accessed by project team

Education/Experience/Additional Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering required
  • 5-10 years of product design and development engineering experience
  • Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks software
  • Proficient with SolidWorks Simulation or other FEA software
  • SolidWorks PDM experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Knowledge of drawing documentation standards
  • Ability to apply knowledge effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback
  • Self-motivated with the ability work independently as well as in teams
  • Must be able to manage multiple activities, maintain organization, and operate in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
  • Strong ability to pay close attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to establish priorities and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision
