OVERVIEW

Fortress Building Products is seeking a qualified industrial Design Intern to join our Product & Brand team. Be a part of a team that is responsible for the design and creation of new products. As the Industrial Design Intern, you will contribute through product development, marketing, and presentation. You will have the opportunity to work closely with our Innovations team to produce visual content to be used to present/display our product. You will work in KeyShot and SolidWorks to create photorealistic rendered images and build 3D renderings as well as, assist with creating workflows and processes for the team. Additionally, not only will you work with the Innovations team but also interact with top Marketing leadership on upcoming ideas for a future product launch. If you have an interest in product design, this internship is for you!

This will be a full-time 3-month summer internship in Garland, TX, with the possibility to extend longer and offer part-time hours during the school year. Candidates must be entering their 3rd or 4th year in an accredited undergraduate design degree program and will need to be local for the duration of the internship. We will also consider recent May 2021 graduates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Create photorealistic rendered images of individual SKUs for use as e-commerce photography.
  • Convert existing SolidWorks files to KeyShot files for use on the website.
  • 3D model parts and pieces for new Fortress’ products being developed.
  • Build 3D renderings of retail displays and merchandising bays.
  • Work closely with the Innovations and Marketing teams to build a workflow and repeatable processes and 3D model development and file naming conventions.
  • Organize and create a process for storing files in PDM.

Education/Experience/Additional Requirements

  • Undergraduate student currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or related field
  • Experience working frequently with 3D CAD and 2D design tools like SolidWorks, KeyShot, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), etc.
  • Basic knowledge of SolidWorks (create parts and mating parts in assemblies)
  • Moderate knowledge of KeyShot
  • Moderate hand sketching skills
  • Interest in developing consumer products
  • ·Strong ability to utilize user-centric thinking and good aesthetic sensibility to align our brand to customer needs
  • Strong ability to think outside the box and bring fresh ideas to the department and projects
  • Willingness to work on a team as most projects will require engagement and teamwork
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple cross-functional teams on complex technical programs in a fast-paced environment
  • Contribute concepts and problem-solving across multiple projects
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation
