Director of Special Gifts – Job Description (Full-Time)

The Director of Special Gifts provides general administrative oversight to matters of financial stewardship in the life of the church.  The position will plan, organize, initiate, and maintain oversight of the Development Programs, the Planned Giving Incubator Program; the Financial Empowerment Ministry, financial counseling of families and individuals within Christ Church, and the implementation of other financial-related programs.

A SNAPSHOT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and implement strategies for donor development and cultivation of generous giving which will provide a diverse funding base that will complement the more traditional route of tithes and offerings.
  • Broaden Christ Church’s fundraising practices by developing approaches such as planned giving, solicitation of bequests, and endowment programs.
  • Work with key staff to identify or develop a comprehensive curriculum in stewardship for use with all age groups in the congregation. This will result in the members’ growth in their understanding and practice of Christian stewardship, including stewardship of income, time, gifts, and talents.
  • Provide leadership in developing and promoting appropriate educational programs for congregation and other church bodies; invite interested individuals to invest in the mission of the church through planned giving.
  • Maintains liaison with Finance Dept. to ensure appropriate letters, emails, and correspondence goes out to reflect first-time givers, significant gifts, etc.
  • Develop a plan for regular touch-points for all donor levels. These can include; automated thank you letters for first time gifts, special notes of thanks for donors giving to a special appeal or a special size, etc.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • An ability to spearhead major initiatives and projects from conception to execution.
  • Leadership and administrative skills with a special ability to lead volunteer teams.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in the field of project development, leadership, recruiting, training, and public speaking.
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with an ability to take initiative and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Organizational or Business Management or related field.
