Catalpa Health is currently seeking to fill the role of Director of Development and Marketing Communications. The ideal candidate would have a proven track record of fundraising and cultivating donor relationships in the Fox Valley region. 

Primary Purpose

The Director of Development and Marketing Communications acts as a member of the Catalpa Health Leadership team and is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all Catalpa Health’s fundraising initiatives including, the annual fund, grant writing, special events, major gifts program, planned giving, and capital campaigns.  The position is also responsible for strategy and oversight of marketing communications.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Develop, oversee and manage Catalpa Health’s comprehensive fundraising plan.
  • Meet with current and prospective donors and supporters on a regular basis; build/maintain solid relationships and update them on the status of Catalpa
  • Work closely with the President and CEO, Board of Directors and Members and community volunteers to coordinate and maximize fundraising endeavors
  • Provide fundraising updates to the Catalpa Health Board and Members.
  • Work as part of the Leadership team to
    • Develop fundraising plan strategically aligned with organizational priorities
    • Ensure funds are spent in alignment with organizational priorities and donor intent
    • Be the voice for internal and external communications, to ensure timely, regular, appropriate communications in a way that is on brand, true to values, and builds trust.
    • develop and maintain an organizational culture and work environment that aligns with our mission and vision and supports our goals.
  • Provide leadership to the marketing communications function to ensure that Catalpa’s image reflects our mission and values – across all media types.
  • Manage staff and vendors involved in development and marketing communications work.

 

Annual Giving/Grant Writing Program

  • Oversee the annual giving program, including mailings and annual fundraising drives.
  • Oversee employee fundraising drives, as appropriate (including external programs such as United Way)
  • Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee and manage fundraising database and tracking systems.
  • Oversee and implement prospect research process.
  • Maintain and oversee donor stewardship program and gift recognition.

 

Special Event Fundraising

  • Special Event Fundraising:
  • Direct and oversee Catalpa Health special fundraising events
  • Work closely with staff, volunteers, and community members on all aspects of the event(s)

 

Major Gift/Planned Gift Fundraising

  • Grow major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors.
  • Develop a planned giving program for Catalpa Health
  • Direct capital campaigns and other major fundraising drives.

 

Other Duties

  • Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to share information about Catalpa Health with the community.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
  • Demonstrates commitment to learn and develop professionally and personally, and facilitates the professional growth and development of team members.
  • May require some evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:
Education   Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, or related field required and 5 + years of fundraising experience, preferably in a healthcare or social service setting.

Additional Education/Experience
Any appropriate combination of education and experience as determined by management.

Certifications & Licenses:
Name Required/Preferred
CFRE Preferred

Skills and Abilities:
  • Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising.
  • Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other volunteers.
  • Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships.
  • Be a “self-starter” and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls.
  • Be organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals.
  • Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability.
