Product Developer

We are working with a rapidly growing plant-based food company that is looking for a Product Developer who be responsible for supporting the Product Development Manager in the development of products in milk alternative categories. This individual will be part of the R&D team and report to the Product Development Manager.

Location: NYC.  This is a hybrid role that requires an on-site presence at the headquarter location 2-3 times per week.

Job Responsibilities:
 
  • Lead the development of new products within business objectives: cost, quality, and time
  • Direct the development of benchtop and pilot formulations with high levels of complexity
  • Coordinate and execute tests, trials, and analysis in alignment with internal teams and partners
  • Ensure that all new developments are tracked and progressing within the timing committed
  • Support optimization and renovation of product formulas and processes
  • Work with vendors to source ingredients, troubleshoot, and provide feedback
  • Evaluate products and trials using sensory analysis and analytical data

Required Skills/Qualifications:  
 
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Engineering, or Nutrition is required
  • Must have 2+ years’ of professional experience in the food industry, particularly in the development of plant-based products
  • Knowledge and experience with HACCP is ideal
  • Must have a solid understanding of product formulation and Stage Gate Process
  • Strong project management and communication skills in a cross-functional environment is desirable
  • Must have a good scientific approach, including organized data collection and documentation, attention to detail, and ability to follow batch protocols
  • Experience in a start-up/fast moving/fast growing environment is needed
  • Must be willing to be hands on, orchestrating the internal and external network when needed to best answer consumer interactions with the ability to work collaboratively in an open and cross-functional environment
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. required
