                                          Launch Plant Manager

We are working with a rapidly growing company that uses state-of-the-art indoor farming techniques to produce pesticide-free baby-leaf greens. Our client is very dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of food and serving local communities. Seeking a talented Launch Plant Manager who will be at the forefront of the newest greenhouse builds. This individual will play a crucial role in ensuring startups are launched on-time and executed flawlessly. This position will last between 12-24 months with permanent placement at a new or existing operation upon completion of the new greenhouse startup.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage a high-performing, cross-functional team to start-up our greenhouses on-time and within budget.
  • Will be largely judged on the execution of start-up operations in production, food safety, sales/ops planning, logistics
  • Will lead our efforts to be a lean organization and will guide us through kaizen activities to improve system efficiencies. 
  • Accountable for delivering a neat, orderly, and safe greenhouse facility during the commissioning and start-up phases. 
  • Will work closely with the Agriculture, Supply-Chain, Sales teams, and other members of the management team to (a) develop and execute the strategies to achieve the company mission and (b) lead the team to enable them to execute the strategies to achieve the company’s mission.
  • Adhere to all food safety guidelines, complete training as assigned, and report food safety problems to your supervisor or other member of management as soon as identified.

Required Skills/Qualifications:  
  • 5-10 years’ experience directly managing individuals working on production lines. Experience in perishable food business with a value-added function, such as cutting fruits/vegetables, processing fruits/vegetables, re-packing, etc. preferred.
  • Ability to achieve production targets while controlling costs and achieving quality standards.
  • 5+ years’ experience in hiring, terminating, promoting, and leading hourly employees. 
  • Experience implementing employee development and feedback systems.
  • Experience in leading performance-based organizations. 
  • Experience in the fundamental tools of Lean Business Operations, including leading training exercises. Those include but are not limited to standard work, 5-S, visual management, and other tools to evaluate value added versus non-value-added activities.  Experience leading kaizen events is desirable.  
  • Performance-based organization training. The culture of the organization should have a heavy emphasis on training as part of employee development. 
  • Experience in training in Lean and/or Six Sigma principles is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and lead cross-functionally
