    Job Summary:
    Category: Category A, Employee with no direct impact on patient care
    FLSA: Non-exempt

    Job Purpose:
    Responsible for the timely pre-certification, authorization, and verification of insurance coverage for pre-admissions, admissions, and specified procedures. The insurance verification specialist will obtain accurate patient demographic and financial information to assist in the patient registration upon arrival. This professional also serves as a valuable resource to patients, providing them with pertinent information regarding their insurance coverage; and works with patients to explain coverage amounts provided by their insurance policy. The insurance verification specialist also helps patients arrange payment for services that are not covered by their insurance companies inclusive of different financing options as defined by policy.

    High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Must demonstrate fundamental math skills
    Associates Degree (or higher) preferred

    Licenses and/or Certifications:

    Related Work Experience and Other Skills:
    Prefer 1 year Registration/Insurance Verification experience in a hospital setting
    Ability to perform mathematical calculations to include percentages, addition, multiplication, division, subtraction
    Data processing/keyboard skills required (35 wpm with accuracy)
    Consistent professional behavior and able to handle confidential information
    Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability
    Demonstrates initiative, is a self-starter. Is able to work independently, prioritizing and organizing workload effectively to complete tasks within the time frames delegated.
    Must be detailed oriented
    Must be flexible in reacting to workflow demands
    Must demonstrate well-developed communication skills, both oral and written to enable strong interpersonal interaction with employees and the public.
    Strong leadership ability
    Exceptional customer service experience, preferably in healthcare or a service industry
    Microsoft Office skills a plus
