Job Purpose

The US Market Fundamentals team uses a combination of electricity market models, problem-solving skills and analytics to assess a range of short, medium and long-term growth opportunities for National Grid Renewables. We are seeking a summer intern with strong data and coding (python) skills to help us build new processes and datasets that will improve our ability to diagnose how certain changes in market conditions could impact project revenue and congestion at operating projects and projects in our pipeline. An intern in this department must be comfortable working with large datasets and have a strong interest in learning about energy markets and the renewable energy business.

Key Accountabilities
  • Lead electricity system modeling and congestion analysis to support investment decisions, business planning, & new development opportunities
  • Continuously improve in-house nodal electricity market models, and develop frameworks for incorporating model and database updates ensuring they are fit for purpose
  • Support M&A, Development, Power Marketing, and Transmission teams with ad hoc market analysis and assessments of market impacts
  • Analyze market, historical, and fundamental data to draw inferences and present results in a clear and understandable format to management and external customers
  • Articulate & explain market model inputs/outputs to senior executives and other stakeholders using market analysis, modeling, & assessments of market impacts
  • Coordinate with National Grid Renewables senior leadership on project opportunities in key market regions


Qualifications
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science or a related quantitative field
  • Experience and interest in creating dashboards and utilizing python to manipulate data.
  • Comfortable working with large data sets
  • Conduct research into energy markets and renewable project development trends across the US
  • Ability to build reports to help communicate market movement
  • Ability to communicate across NGR departments
  • Strong excel skills a requirement
  • Familiarity with Power BI or other data visualization / dashboard development packages a plus
