Job Summary: Lead Technician The ideal candidate will be a BICSI Certified Technician or Installer 2 Copper/Fiber Technician, or willing to obtain the credentials for the same. They will have experience in cable placement (copper and fiber), testing, and troubleshooting. They will install pathways including but not limited to j-hooks, cable trays, and conduits. The candidate will be responsible for knowledge of cabling infrastructure, and design methods, and for the installation and testing of best practices related to material selection, performance, functionality, application, and intended use of a multitude of products. The Lead Tech will be provided with a work truck and gas card to be used only for company work.
Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
Run large projects consisting of 200 plus cable drops in commercial office buildings, factories, campus environments, and industrial environments
Manage a crew of 3 to 10 installers setting clear direction, setting objectives on work, and ensuring results
Manage the execution of multiple projects simultaneously
Works closely with the customers, project manager, and department manager on projects
Install voice, data, video, and fiber optic cabling including single-mode, multimode, stranded, and ribbon, and the ability to supervise the installation
Identify cable paths, pulling identifying, and labeling copper and fiber cable
Install cabling pathways including but not limited to J-hooks, cable tray, and conduit. hardware and equipment
Analyze and troubleshoot basic technical problems or issues related to cabling issues
Read and understand blueprints, specifications, diagrams, and construction prints
Understand the fiber optic color code to install and test fiber cables in a variety of environments (aerial and underground)
Be responsible for access requests
Clean and maintain test equipment regularly
Work in confined spaces (trenches, tunnels, crawl spaces, etc.) for extended periods
Climb poles, ladders, and operate bucket truck as needed to complete daily construction assignments
Other responsibilities, as assigned by the department manager
Required Skills & Qualifications: General
5+ years of experience in telecommunications or related technical fields
Demonstrated ability to supervise others
Ability to work efficiently under pressure to meet tight project milestones and deadlines
Demonstrated excellent written and oral interpersonal communication skills
Ability to complete and submit accurate and complete documentation
Must be able to work at heights up to 60 feet
Must be able to lift, push and pull at least 50 lbs. regularly and 100 lbs., as needed, with or without assistance
Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs, moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials
Must have basic computer skills, including email, Excel, and Word
Must be able to communicate effectively and maintain a professional working attitude with co-workers, manager, customers, etc
Must adhere to safety practices and procedures at all times
Must have safety-toed boots (to be paid by the employee)
Be able to work exposed to inclement weather (cold, snow, rain, heat, etc.)
Travel required
Must be able to work long hours (overtime), weekends and holidays as needed
Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
Must have reliable transportation to and from work
Must pass a pre-employment drug test, and background screen including an acceptable motor vehicle report
Must be at least 18 years of age
Good communication skills with the ability to interact with the crew, leadership, and customers
Teamwork orientation and ability to function effectively as an integral part of a team and as a team leader
Candidate to supply basic hand tools, PPE, and specialty tools will be supplied by the company
Technical
Must be familiar with all types of work environments: commercial office buildings, factories, campus environments, and industrial environments
Must have in-depth knowledge of codes and standards, and be able to follow customer standards
Thorough working knowledge of basic telephony architecture, copper multi-pair frames and cross-connect, color codes, and connectivity of telephone systems and devices
Working knowledge of the telecommunications network structure both aerial and underground
Must have a thorough understanding and working knowledge of codes, standards, installation procedures, and troubleshooting abilities on both fiber and copper installations
Working knowledge and understanding of reading and interpreting engineering, architectural, and construction plans, drawings, blueprints, specifications, and other project documents and ability to follow specifications
Working knowledge of building and mechanical/electrical codes
Ability to distinguish colors
Demonstrated knowledge of industry codes, standards, and methods such as IEEE, ANSI, TIA, EIA, BICSI, NEC, NFPA, and OSHA
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
Maintain a current DOT medical card and medical examination report
Maintain OSHA 10 Certification; will help the selected candidate obtain
Maintain OSHA 30 Certification; will help the selected candidate obtain
Maintain BICSI Level 2 or Technician certification; will help the selected candidate obtain
Maintain any other job-related certifications
