Supplier Quality Manager (Cheese & Co-packing)

We are looking to fill a Supplier Quality Manager position that will be responsible for their compliance of incoming cheese and co-packed products from their perspective suppliers.

This role will be responsible for reviewing, assessing, and approving co-packed products against food safety and quality standards. While also working closely with Purchasing on the onboarding of new ingredients, packing and suppliers.

This is a hybrid position located in Chicago, IL with easy access to transit. Must come into the office 2-3 days a week.  


Job Responsibilities:
 
  • Schedules, plans, and executes food safety & food quality audits for existing and potential cheese and co-packing suppliers
  • Utilizes the principles of GFSI, HACCP & ISO in audits to assess food safety/quality risks recommends mitigation strategies
  • Monitors and follows up with manufacturing plants to ensure the full implementation of corrective actions
  • Provides technical input on food safety of cheese and co-packed materials on product development teams
  • Reviews, approves, and files all cheese and co-packed materials on product development teams
  • Reviews, approves, and files all cheese co-packing supplier documentation against expectations
  • Organizes and plans a detailed schedule to ensure supply/facility audits are efficiently conducted. Produces audit reports and distributes internally in a timely manner, after each visit
  • Completes monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Maintains a close partnership with the purchasing department to facilitate communication with suppliers as needed
  • Provides support on projects as needed
  • Partners cross functionally to achieve overall company objectives
  • Shares and promotes best practices throughout the organization

Required Skills/Qualifications:  
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in microbiology, food science, dairy science, life sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in food manufacturing is required
  • 1+ years of experience auditing food manufacturing locations is required
  • 5-7 years related experience in quality programs in a food and beverage manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience auditing co-packers is ideal
  • Solid knowledge of GFSI, HACCP, & US food regulations
  • Proficiency with data management portals, MS applications, specifically Excel
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently
  • Strong organizational skills and proven attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage projects in a changing, complex environment
  • Ability to travel 35-50%
