Position Description
The Wind Plant Manager, based near Great Plains Wind Farm in Gruver, TX, provides oversight and management of the day-to-day operations and maintenance of a utility scale wind power plant. Management includes development and compliance with an operating budget, outage coordination and scheduling with the interconnect entity, scheduling coordinator and trading desk, oversight of operations and maintenance to ensure work is carried out using Prudent Utility Practices. Responsibilities include:   
  • Ensures strict management and compliance of all company and project environmental, health and safety programs.
  • Responsible to ensure site staff receives periodic safety training and conducts periodic safety assessments.
  • Negotiates and administers 3rd party contracts.
  • Administers warranties. Submit and track warranty claims.  Track all on loan parts and reconcile with appropriate parties
  • Manages implementation of capital improvement programs and retrofits.
  • Manages National Grid Renewables Opco (NGRO) field personnel performing turbines and balance of plant inspections, operations, maintenance and warranty activities of all equipment. 
  • Prepares annual budget.
  • Prepares project monthly reports which include but are not limited to, project status, monthly plant statistics, monthly expenses and adherence to contractual requirements.  
  • Reviews and approves root cause analyses of major failures. 
  • Performs staffing activities, counseling, coaching, training and corrective actions of subordinate employees. Prepares performance evaluations per company instructions and guidelines. 
  • Performs and manages QA/QC of 3rd party contractor activities.  QA/QC would include performing job task analysis reports on a monthly basis.
  • Manages communication with counterparties with respect to compliance requirements stated in contracts or proposed contract amendments.
  • Periodic downloading of data files from project SCADA system.
  • Utilize a CMMS to enter time and material to capture all maintenance activity.
  • Maintain inventory levels to optimize plant performance by performing weekly cycle counts.  Report any discrepancies.
  • Participate in regional and project staff meetings.
Qualifications
  • Four-year college degree or technical school certificate; or 5 years of related experience or power industry training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in power plant operations and maintenance.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to climb 80-meter towers on a routine basis.
  • Weight must not exceed 285 lbs. (excluding equipment/gear) when performing job related tasks.
  • Ability to work at a height of at least 80 meters and in enclosed spaces for extended periods of time
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 50lbs repetitively, as required.
  • Advanced computer skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control, management and reporting systems, including the use of computerized diagnostic and troubleshooting tools. 
  • Comprehensive writing skills to meet contractual reporting obligations. 
  • Ability to work in extremely adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to work around low and medium voltage.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment required for facility maintenance with a working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements. 
Preference may be given to candidates with the following: 
  • Experience in wind plant operations and wind turbine experience.
  • Experience in high voltage maintenance and switching.
