POSITION: Staff Accountant

LOCATION: Saratoga Springs, NY (hybrid)

SUMMARY: Our client CARES of NY, Inc. (CARES), an organization that collaborates with and supports communities to prevent and end homelessness, is hiring a Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant is responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, processing payments, cash reconciliations, maintaining general ledger/journal entries, and credit cards. The Staff Accountant will also assist with spending projections and budgeting. This is a hybrid position based in Saratoga Springs, NY. ​​​​

CARES of NY envisions that all people have access to safe, affordable housing and the social support to remain housed. CARES offices are in Albany, NY, however, our customers and partner agencies are located throughout 37 counties in NYS.

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for accounts receivable and accounts payable.
• Processes payments for both CARES of NY, Inc. and for sub-recipients.
• Performs cash reconciliations.
• Maintain General Ledger.
• Prepare journal entries.
• Assists with office purchases.
• Maintains credit cards.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned.
• Spending projections and budgeting.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Associate degree required. Preferably with a focus on accounting. (Bachelors/Master's Degree and/or CPA a plus. Prior experience with government grants is a plus, but not a necessity.)
• 2-3 years of experience in similar roles. Experience with Excel and general accounting principles. Prior non-profit audit experience preferred.
• Able to use Microsoft 365 suite (Including Microsoft Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and advanced Excel skills).
• Ability to manage multiple tasks at once without missing deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Able to adapt to changing work priorities and a fast-paced environment while maintaining a professional demeanor.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ready to jump into any task to learn and grow as an employee.
• Interact with both colleagues and staff with a pleasant demeanor.
