La Rabida Children’s Hospital is hiring a Full-Time, Day-Shift  Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) for the inpatient nursing department to join our team!

Job Summary:

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs various duties under the direction and supervision of a Professional Registered Nurse to provide care to patients from infancy to adolescence as well as some young adults with chronic medical conditions.  The most common admitting patient diagnoses are sickle cell anemia, diabetes, asthma, severe burns, and physical and sexual abuse.

Job Functions:

Participates in the provision of safe patient care throughout the shift under the direction and supervision of a Professional Registered Nurse.
Reports patient observations to the Professional Nurse/Mod Leader in a timely fashion. 
Follows and supports the plan of care for each patient as developed by the Professional Nurse.
Assists Professional Nurse and/or Licensed Practical Nurse with procedures.       
Makes rounds on the Nursing Unit, anticipates patients' needs, and answers patient call lights.
Assists in maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly environment by doing assigned unit tasks and
reporting faulty equipment or problems to Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse.

Maintains required job skills and professional competencies.  Attends required educational
sessions.  Supports the hospital's mission and observes hospital core job values (with respect
to work quality, productivity, teamwork, customer service, and initiative).

Maintains required job skills, professional competencies, current licensure, certification, and ongoing education required of the job, as applicable.  
Demonstrates safe and proper usage of machinery/equipment, as applicable.
Demonstrates ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their specific needs.
Attends Mandatory Education Sessions:
  • Annual Infection Control
  • Annual Safety
  • Disaster
  • Hazardous Wastes & Material
  • Others as determined by Hospital and Department
Lifting, moving, and transporting patients; prolonged periods of walking and standing; evening/night shift and/or weekends as needed.
Ability to understand instructions, reason, and make judgments.
Ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately.
Ability to operate all medical equipment related to the delivery of patient care.

What we need from you:

High School Diploma or equivalency (GED).
Nursing Assistant Illinois Certificate required.
Related childcare experience preferred.
Ability to work with children and families.
CPR required.  Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association, or the American Red Cross will be accepted.
