About the Position:
National Grid Renewables is hiring an Energy Storage Development Intern who will play a pivotal role in guiding our company's energy storage siting and development efforts. This role will involve comprehensive research, data analysis, and strategic collaboration across departments to identify suitable locations for energy storage development. The ideal candidate will be adept at understanding market dynamics, identifying growth opportunities, and formulating strategies to strengthen our presence in the energy storage sector.

Key Role and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a thorough review of utility Integrated Resource Plans (IRPs), public utility commission dockets, and market intelligence data in the MISO, SPP, SERC, and PJM regions.
  • Understand the quantitative principles of electricity markets and provide support to model development related to production cost analyses highlighting the value of storage across different markets.
  • Collaborate with the Storage and Development teams to bridge the gap between the company's existing siting approach and the requirements of potential utility and C&I customers.
  • Provide actionable insights to the storage team to aid in siting and developmental endeavors.
  • Facilitate the development of a dedicated web platform/application to streamline the above research efforts.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Origination and Development team to align developmental initiatives with the specific needs of utility/muni/C&I customers.
  • Support the Origination team in their interactions with potential clients, ensuring a clear understanding of their needs and outlining how our company can offer tailored solutions.
  • Assist in crafting customer-centric strategies and proposals to foster long-term partnerships.

What you bring to this role:
  • Completed undergraduate or graduate degree in Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related.
  • Knowledge of or experience in energy storage sector.
  • Knowledge of or experience in electricity or power markets industry.
  • Knowledge of or experience in electricity policy or public policy.
  • Knowledge of programming languages like Python, Julia preferred.
  • Detail-oriented
  • Well-organized; multi-tasker
  • Strong written and oral communicator
  • Quick, accurate, and consistent work
