Job Summary:
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for developing and implementing effective purchasing strategies, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services.  This position plays a key role in optimizing the supply chain, negotiating contracts, and maintaining a high level of quality and efficiency.  

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Directly manages a team of employees.
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, developing, and managing performance for direct reports.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Strategic Sourcing:
    • Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans to ensure a reliable and cost-effective supply chain.
    • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, negotiate contracts, and establish long-term relationships to secure favorable terms and conditions.
  • Vendor Management:
    • Manage and evaluate vendor performance, addressing any issues or discrepancies in a timely manner.
    • Conduct regular vendor assessments to ensure compliance with quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
  • Contract Negotiation:
    • Negotiate contracts, terms, rebates, and conditions with suppliers to achieve the best value for the organization.
    • Work closely with finance team to ensure contracts are in compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Cost Management:
    • Analyze pricing proposals, market trends, and cost factors to make informed purchasing decisions.
    • Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or service levels.
  • Inventory Control:
    • Collaborate with inventory management teams to optimize stock levels and reduce excess inventory.
    • Monitor and track inventory turnover, addressing any discrepancies or issues.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with various departments, including production, warehouse, and location leadership, to ensure seamless collaboration and communication throughout the supply chain.
  • Risk Management:
    • Identify potential risks in the supply chain and implement mitigation strategies.
    • Stay informed about market trends, geopolitical factors, and other external influences that may impact procurement.
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
    • Stay abreast of changes affecting procurement and sourcing activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. (master’s degree preferred).
  • Proven experience as a Purchasing, Procurement and/or Sourcing Manager with direct reports
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • In-depth working knowledge of supply chain management and procurement processes.
  • Experience working with relevant software, such as ERP systems and procurement tools.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage and lead staff to excellent performance. 
  • Professional certification may be required in some areas. 

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and talking on the phone, attending in-person and virtual online meetings, and use of standard office equipment.
  • Ability to travel for work related activities, when needed.
